A MODEL FOR PASTEURIZATION WITH MICROWAVES IN A TUBULAR FLOW REACTOR
OZILGEN, S; OZILGEN, M (Elsevier BV, 1991-05-01)
Thermal death kinetics of Escherichia coli with microwaves were studied by using a tubular flow reactor with different diameters, lengths, and flow rates. Mathematical models were presented for temperature profile development and death of the microorganisms along the reactor. A first-order kinetic expression in biomass concentration simulated the death phenomena. Temperature effects on the death rate constant were expressed with an Arrhenius expression. Numerical values of the constants of this expressi...
A phase-field model for chemo-mechanical induced fracture in lithium-ion battery electrode particles
MIEHE, C.; Dal, Hüsnü; SCHAENZEL, L. -M.; RAINA, A. (2016-06-01)
Capacity fade in conventional Li-ion battery systems due to chemo-mechanical degradation during charge-discharge cycles is the bottleneck in high-performance battery design. Stresses generated by diffusion-mechanical coupling in Li-ion intercalation and deintercalation cycles, accompanied by swelling and shrinking at finite strains, cause micro-cracks, which finally disturb the electrical conductivity and isolate the electrode particles. This leads to battery capacity fade. As a first attempt towards a reli...
A computational model for partially plastic stress analysis of orthotropic variable thickness disks subjected to external pressure
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim; Yedekçi, Buşra (2014-04-01)
A computational model is developed to predict the states of stressand deformation in partially plastic, orthotropic, variable thickness, nonisothermal, stationary annular disks under external pressure. Assuming a state ofplane stress and using basic equations of mechanics of a disk, Maxwell relation,Hill’s quadratic yield condition, and a Swift type nonlinear hardening law, asingle governing differential equation describing the elastic and partially plasticresponse of an orthotropic, variable thickness, non...
