Advanced oxidation techniques for the removal of refractory organics from textile wastewaters
Erol, Funda; Özbelge, Ayşe Tülay; Department of Chemical Engineering (2008)
Ozonation is an efficient method to degrade refractory organics in textile wastewaters. In recent years, catalytic ozonation is applied to reduce ozone consumption and to increase “chemical oxygen demand” and “total organic carbon” (TOC) removal efficiencies. The ozonation of two industrial dyes, namely Acid Red-151 (AR-151) and Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) was examined separately both in a semi-batch reactor and also in a fluidized bed reactor (FBR) by conventional and catalytic ozonation with alumina a...

Improvements in energy and water consumption performances of a textile mill after bat applications
Kocabaş, Ayşe Merve; Yetiş, Ülkü; Department of Environmental Engineering (2008)
European Union’s Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Directive forms a comprehensive framework for industries mentioned in the Annex 1 of the Directive concentrating on the reduction of the environmental impacts of the industrial activities which can be implemented by the BREF Documents that provide guidelines for each sector. Among those industries, textile is a water and energy intensive one. In the present study, gains in terms of energy and water consumptions were assessed in a denim prod...
Development of a membrane based treatment scheme for water recovery from textile effluents
Çapar, Gökşen; Yetiş, Ülkü; Department of Environmental Engineering (2005)
A membrane based treatment scheme was developed for the recovery of the print dyeing wastewaters (PDWs) and the acid dye bath wastewaters (ADBWs) of carpet manufacturing industry. The treatment schemes were developed by selecting the best pre-treatment and treatment processes among the alternatives of chemical precipitation (CP), microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF). The best process train for PDW was CP+NF, where organic matter, color, turbidity and total hardness were removed...
