Electromagnetic Scattering from Obstacles in the Near Field Region of Electrically Large Arrays
Cetin, Ramazan; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Nepa, Paolo; Manara, Giuliano (2009-09-18)
In this paper, an efficient method for the analysis of electromagnetic scattering/radiation from the obstacles nearby electrically large array antennas, with nonuniform excitation, is proposed. The approach is based on the combination of a ray field representation of electrically large arrays and a DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) based representation of array current distribution. Proposed method is applied to a 2D problem: Radiation of a linear array of 2N+1 infinitely long current elements with tapered c...
Investigation of inertial support limits in wind turbines and the effects on the power system stability
Duymaz, Erencan; Keysan, Ozan; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
In this study, the inertial support implementation is studied for variable speed wind turbines with a full-scale power electronics. To increase the active power as desired, Machine Side Converter is modified with an additional control loop. In the first part of the thesis, active power of the wind turbine is increased to the limits and the maximum achievable active power is found out to be restricted by the wind speed. It is found that the wind turbine can increase its output power by 40% of rated power in ...
Investigation of Alternative Array Configurations of Nanowires for Maximum Power Transmission at Optical Frequencies
Karaosmanoglu, Bariscan; Satana, Hasan Aykut; Dikmen, Fatih; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-07-14)
We present a computational analysis and comparison of nanowire arrays for efficient transmission of electromagnetic power at optical frequencies. A reliable simulation environment involving the multilevel fast multipole algorithm for fast iterative solutions of surface integral equations is used to accurately compute field intensity and power density values in the vicinity of nanowires in diverse configurations. The results demonstrate favorable properties of honeycomb structures that can provide efficient ...
Analysis of conventional low voltage power line communication methods for automatic meter reading and the classification and experimental verification of noise types for low voltage power line communication network
Danışman, Batuhan; Sevaioğlu, Osman; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
In this thesis, the conventional low voltage power line communication methods is investigated in the axis of automated meter reading applications and the classification and experimental verification of common noise types for low voltage power line communication network. The investigated system provides the real time transmission of electricity consumption data recorded by electricity meters, initially to a local computer via a low voltage line through a low speed PLC (Power Line Carrier) environment and sub...
Analysis of slot coupled microstrip patch antennas
Ballıkaya, Elif; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
Method of Moments (MoM)/Green’s function formulation is developed for the analysis of electromagnetic radiation from planar rectangular microstrip antennas with different feeding techniques. Investigated structures are microstrip line fed patch antenna, proximity coupled patch antenna and slot coupled patch antenna. For all these structures equivalent problems are defined. Then, integral equations where currents are the unknowns are obtained from boundary conditions and by using spectral domain representati...
