Celik, O., S.N. Kosar, F. Korkusuz, and M. Bozkurt. Reliability and validity of the modified Conconi test on Concept II rowing ergometers. J. Strength Cond. Res. 19(4):871-877. 2005.-The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability and validity of the modified Conconi test on Concept II rowing ergometers. Twenty-eight oarsmen conducted 3 performance tests on separate days. Reliability was assessed using the break point in heart rate (HR) linearity called the Conconi test (CT) and Conconi retest (CRT) for the noninvasive measurement of anaerobic threshold (AT). Blood lactate measurement was considered the gold standard for the assessment of the AT, and the validity of the CT was assessed by blood samples taken during an incremental load test (ILT) on ergometers. According to the results, the mean power output (PO) scores for the CT, CRT, and ILT were 234.2 +/- 40.3 W, 232.5 +/- 39.7 W, and 229.7 +/- 39.6 W, respectively. The mean HR values at the AT for the CT, CRT, and ILT were 165.4 +/- 11.2 b.min, 160.4 +/- 10.8 b.min, and 158.3 +/- 8.8 b.min, respectively. Interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) analysis indicated a significant correlation between the 3 tests with one another. Also, Bland and Altman plots showed that there was an association between noninvasive tests and the ILT PO scores and HRs (95% confidence interval [CI]). In conclusion, this study showed that the modified CT is a reliable and valid method for determining the AT of elite men rowers.

Sekendiz, Betuel; Cug, Mutlu; Korkusuz, Feza (Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health), 2010-11-01)
Sekendiz, B, Cug., M, and Korkusuz, F. Effects of Swiss-ball core strength training on strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance in sedentary women. J Strength Cond Res 24(11): 3032-3040, 2010-The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Swiss-ball core strength training on trunk extensor (abdominal)/ flexor (lower back) and lower limb extensor (quadriceps)/flexor (hamstring) muscular strength, abdominal, lower back and leg endurance, flexibility and dynamic balance in sedentary women (n ...
Evaluation of the Protective Effects of Quercetin, Rutin, Naringenin, Resveratrol and Trolox Against Idarubicin-Induced DNA Damage
Çelik, Haydar; Arinç, Emel (University of Alberta Libraries, 2010-7-22)
PURPOSE. Idarubicin is a synthetic anthracycline anticancer drug widely used in the treatment of some hematological malignancies. The studies in our laboratory have clearly demonstrated that idarubicin can undergo reductive bioactivation by NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase to free radicals with resulting formation of DNA strand breaks, which can potentially contribute to its genotoxic effects [Çelik, H., Arinç, E., Bioreduction of idarubicin and formation of ROS responsible for DNA cleavage by NADPH-...
Cytotoxicity of Hydrazones of Morpholine Bearing Mannich Bases Towards Huh7 and T47D Cell Lines and Their Effects on Mitochondrial Respiration
Kucukoglu, Kaan; GÜL, Halise İnci; GÜL, Mustafa; Atalay, Rengül; Baratli, Yosra; Geny, Bernard (Bentham Science Publishers Ltd., 2016-01-01)
N,N'-bis[1-(substitutedphenyl)-3-(morpholine-4-yl) propylidene] hydrazine dihydrochlorides, N1-N11 were designed and synthesized as cytotoxic agents. These compounds were synthesized by the reaction of 2 moles of 1-( substitutedphenyl)-3-(morpholine-4-yl)-1-propanone hydrochlorides with 1 mole of hydrazine hydrate. The compounds reported here are new, except N1 and N4. The cytotoxicity of the compounds was tested against human hepatoma (Huh7) and breast cancer (T47D) cell lines. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) was us...
Validation of the operational MSG-SEVIRI snow cover product over Austria
Surer, S.; Parajka, J.; Akyurek, Z. (Copernicus GmbH, 2014-2-24)
Abstract. The objective of this study is to evaluate the mapping accuracy of the MSG-SEVIRI operational snow cover product over Austria. The SEVIRI instrument is aboard the geostationary Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellite. The snow cover product provides 32 images per day, with a relatively low spatial resolution of 5 km over Austria. The mapping accuracy is examined at 178 stations with daily snow depth observations and compared with the daily MODIS-combined (Terra + Aqua) snow cover produc...
Modeling dissolved oxygen dynamics and hypoxia
Peña, M. A.; Katsev, S.; Oguz, T.; Gilbert, D. (Copernicus GmbH, 2010-3-9)
Abstract. Hypoxia conditions are increasing throughout the world, influencing biogeochemical cycles of elements and marine life. Hypoxia results from complex interactions between physical and biogeochemical processes, which can not be understood by observations alone. Models are invaluable tools at studying system dynamics, generalizing discrete observations and predicting future states. They are also useful as management tools for evaluating site-specific responses to management scenarios. Here we ...
