Manganese(III) acetate oxidation of some ketones in the presence of 3-chloropropionic acid was carried out. The products were characterized. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical ones which was based on AM1 (UHF) type semi-empirical calculations. The theoretical results disfavor any mechanism solely based on radical stability involving radicals originating from the reactants.

Manganese(III) acetate mediated oxidation of N-methylindol and N-methylcarbazol derivatives
Demir, Ayhan S.; Tural, Servet (ARKAT USA, Inc., 2008-6-22)
Manganese(III) acetate mediated oxidation of 1-alkyl-1H-indole and 9-methyl-9H-carbazole was studied. 1-Methyl-1H-indole gives the 1-acetoxymethyl derivative with good yield. 1-Methyl- 2-phenyl-1H-indole furnished the oxidation of the methyl group and C-3 of indole to obtain the corresponding acetoxy derivatives. 1-ethyl-2-phenyl derivative only furnished the C-3 acetoxylation product. 1,2-Dimethyl-1H-indole furnished oxidation on both of the methyl groups. The major products are 1-methyl-1H-indole-2-carbal...
Manganese(III) acetate based selective oxidation of the tertiary α′-position on various cyclic α,β-unsaturated ketones
Tanyeli, Cihangir; Iyigün, Çigdem; Elmal, Olcay (2001-09-03)
We describe the preliminary results of manganese(III) acetate based selective oxidation of various alpha ' -methyl 2-cyclohexenone and 2-cyclopentenone derivatives to afford the corresponding alpha ' -acetoxy-alpha ' -methyl substituted oxidation products in good yields. Manganese(III) acetate based oxidation of substituted α′-position on cyclic α,β-unsaturated ketones
Tanyeli, Cihangir (2003-09-01)
Selective oxidation of the tertiary alpha'-position on various 2-cyclopentenone, 2-cyclohexenone and aromatic ketone derivatives with manganese(III) acetate is described.
Manganese triacetate mediated regeneration of carbonyl compounds from oximes
Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Tanyeli, Cihangir; ALTİNEL, Ertan (1997-10-13)
A new method for the direct conversion of oximes into aldehydes and ketones by treatment with manganese triacetate is described. Manganese triacetate can be used for an effective and mild oxidizing agent for the regeneration of carbonyl compounds from oximes in good yield. Many functional groups are tolerated under the reaction conditions.
Manganese(III) acetate based tandem oxidation of various α and β-alkoxy α,β-unsaturated ketones
Tanyeli, Cihangir; Sezen, Bengü (Elsevier BV, 2002-12-09)
We described the unusual results of manganese(III) acetate based tandem oxidation of various alpha and beta-alkoxy alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones to afford the corresponding alpha'-acetoxy-alpha'-phenyl substituted oxidation products in good yields. The tandem oxidation to monoacetoxylation ratio can be tuned by the amount of manganese(III) acetate.
