The aim of the present study was to study reliability and validity of Turkish version of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988) which is consisted of 20 items 10 of which is used to measure positive and other 10 to measure negative affect. Based on the data derived from 199 university students, 10 items loaded on both Positive and Negative Affect factors separately, as was anticipated. Besides studying factorial validity, internal consistencies were found as .83 and .86, respectively for positive and negative affect; and test-retest reliability coefficients were found as .40 and .54 sequentially. Criterion-related validity of Turkish version of this scale tvas studied through Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory scores. Results revealed that, Positive Affect presented correlations of -.48 and -.22 with these inventories respectively; while negative affect correlations were found to be .51 and .47 respectively for these inventories. Coherency of the findings with the literature was discussed.

Discriminant validity of low positive affect: is it specific to depression?
Gençöz, Tülin (2002-04-19)
The aim of this study was to reveal the effects of low Positive Affect on depression symptomatology. Due to the high correlations between depression and anxiety scores, it was also aimed to present a discriminative validity for these symptomatologies. The study was conducted with 8 1 university students, who were available during follow-up assessment as well. Consistent with expectations, analyses revealed that low Positive Affect predicted changes in depression symptomatology but did not predict changes in...
Within-Person Reliability of Positive and Negative Affect in Repeated Measurements
Gök, Ali Can; Gençöz, Tülin (2018-01-01)
Repeated positive and negative affect measurements are widely administered to adults in Turkey in both empirical and clinical work. However, within-person reliability of these measures has never been tested. Test-retest coefficient, a traditional index of reliability, does not evaluate within-person reliability and therefore, an investigation regarding the assessment of both within and between person reliability for repeated measures of positive and negative affect is crucial. The present paper examines the...
The relationship between the dimensions of alexithymia and the intensity of depression and anxiety
Motan, Irem; Gençöz, Tülin (2007-12-01)

Mediating role of emotion regulation in age and life satisfaction/affect relations: socioemotional selectivity theory perspective
Uzun, Gizem; Bozo Özen, Özlem; Department of Psychology (2021-1-25)
The main purpose of the present dissertation was to investigate age-related differences in emotion regulation and subjective well-being by using Socioemotional Selectivity Theory as a theoretical framework. Moreover, the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the relation of age with affect and life satisfaction was aimed to be understood. Data were collected from 153 younger adults aged between 25 and 40 and 151 older adults aged between 65 and 80. The results of the study demonstrate...
Possible risk factors for suicide : depression, anxiety, positive and negative affect, academic achievement, problem-solving skills and family relations
Or, Pınar; Gençöz, Tülin; Department of Psychology (2003)
This study aimed at revealing the predictive values of depressive and anxiety symptomatology, positive and negative affect, family environment, problem solving skills, and several control variables which are, sex, age, number of siblings, education level of the mother and the father, place where the subject lived in the majority of his/her life, income of the family, the place subject stayed during university life, and GPA, on suicidal intentions. The participants were 226 students from Middle East Technica...
