Sixty-one species assignable to 31 genera of Late Carboniferous and Early Permian fusulinoideans were distinguished from the Hadim area, central Taurides, Turkey. They are biostratigraphically divided into eleven zones in ascending order: Protriticites variabilis, Montiparus urnbonoplicatus and Schwageriniformis schwageriniformis zones in the Kasimovian; the figulites A formosus, Daixina asiatica and Rugosofusulina sp. A zones in the Gzhelian; Paraschwagerina sp. and Dutkevichia complicata zones in the Asselian; Paraschwagerina pseudomira and Robustoscbwagerina nucleolata zones in the Sakmarian; and the Dunbarula? sp. zone of possible Artinskian age. Basal Kasimovian strata, Kasimovian-Gzhelian boundary strata and lower Asselian strata are missing due to erosion and/or non-deposition on the basis of faunal analysis of these fusulinoideans.

Upper Cretaceous volcaniclastic complexes and calcareous plankton biostratigraphy in the Western Pontides, NW Turkey
Boehm, Katharina; Wagreich, Michael; Wolfgring, Erik; Tuysuz, Okan; Gier, Susanne; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer (2019-01-01)
This study describes and interprets Upper Cretaceous volcaniclastics interbedded with hemipelagic to pelagic limestones, marls, and turbidites from the Western Pontides, northwestern Turkey. The Derekey Formation, the Unaz Formation (red pelagic limestone unit), and the Cambu Formation can be distinguished, overlain by the turbiditic Akveren Formation. Biostratigraphic ages from the predominantly volcaniclastic Derekoy Formation indicate Turonian (Dicarinella concavata planktonic foraminifera zone, CC13/UC8...
Divaricate patterns in Cambro-Ordovician obolid brachiopods from Gondwana
Mergl, M.; Hosgor, I; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Zamora, S.; Colmenar, J. (Informa UK Limited, 2018-01-01)
A new brachiopod species, Westonia mardini, from the Furongian of Turkey and a new occurrence of Westonia urbiona from the Cambrian Series 3 of Iberian Peninsula are reported. These new finds of 'westoniids' collected in Gondwana allow the discussion of the functional morphology of their terrace ridges. This structure enabled an effective and rapid reburrowing and allowed the occupation of the shallow marine unstable sands and silts in the shoreface environments. This burrowing mechanism, with their pedicle...
Use of sedimentary structures in the recognition of sequence boundaries in Upper Jurassic-Upper Cretaceous peritidal carbonates of the Western Taurides, Turkey
Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Altıner, Demir (Informa UK Limited, 2001-08-01)
Subtidal, intertidal, and supratidal carbonate facies are recognized in the Upper Jurassic (Kimmeridgian)-Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian) peritidal carbonates of the Fele area (Western Taurides, Turkey). Vertical stacking patterns of these facies are of a cyclical character, shallowing upward is the trend of the cyclicity in these carbonate facies. In-situ karstic breccias, collapse breccias, caliche (laminar calcrete), "Microcodium" accretion, and root casts are structures commonly indicative of third-order ...
Palynostratigraphic and palynofacies investigation of the oligocene-miocene units in the Kars-Erzurum-Muş sub-basins(Eastern Anatolia)
Sancay, Recep Hayrettin; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2005)
Eleven dinoflagellates, acritarchs, and pollen biozones have been identified in Upper Eocene to Pliocene sediments combined from Muş, Tekman, Tercan-Aşkale, Pasinler-Horasan basins and the Bayburt-Kars Plateau in this study. FAD̕s of Compositae (tubuliflorae type), Slowakipollenites hipophäeoides, Mediocolpopollis compactus, Monoporopollenites gramineoides and Umbelliferae at the base of Rupelian, FAD of Wetzeliella gochtii in the أmiddleؤ Rupelian, LAD of Ascostomocystis potane in the late Rupelian, LAD of...
Posidonia becheri Bronn, 1828 from the Tournaisian of SE Turkey: A palaeobiogeographic enigma
Hosgor, Izzet; OKAN, YAVUZ; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (2012-01-01)
The posidoniform bivalve species Posidonia becheri Bronn, 1828, has been identified for the first time in the Lower Carboniferous (Tournaisian) sandy limestone-dark grey shale deposits of Hakkari Province, south-eastern Turkey. Palaeogeographically, this area was located at the northern tip of the Gondwanan Arabian Palaeozoic platform at the southern Palaeotethyan margin during the Carboniferous. The closest localities to this new occurrence are the Lower Carboniferous of northern England, Germany (Kulm Bas...
