Synthesis and characterization of nickel zinc oxide nanoparticles and their investigation as water oxidation catalyst
Ağcalı, Rahime Yağmur; Nalbant Esentürk, Emren; Department of Chemistry (2020-10)
The depletion of fossil fuels has steered attention to discover new energy sources. Fossil fuels are not desirable to use because of their hazardous effects on earth and being non-renewable, yet they have been used as primary energy sources all over the world. Due to their limited amount, the focus of research has become maintaining renewable, green, and clean energy. In this sense, among others hydrogen has a great potential for being a primary source. The possible supplied energy from hydrogen is gr...
Synthesis and characterization of boron-doped Bi2O3-La2O3 fiber derived nanocomposite precursor
Durmusoglu, Senol; Uslu, Ibrahim; TUNÇ, TUNCAY; Keskin, Selda; Aytimur, Arda; Akdemir, Ahmet (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-11-01)
Boron doped poly(vinyl) alcohol/ bismuth - lanthanum acetate (PVA/Bi-La) nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning using PVA as a precursor. The effect of boron doping was investigated in terms of solution properties, morphological changes and thermal characteristics. The fibers were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM and BET. The addition of boron did not only increase the thermal stability of the fibers, but also their diameters, which yielded stronger fibers. XRD analyses showed that boron doping increas...
Synthesis and Characterization of Polypyrrole Nanoparticles and Their Nanocomposites with Poly(propylene)
Sevil, Baytekin; Zuhal, Kucukyavuz (2009-07-09)
Conducting polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles were synthesized via microemulsion polymerization. PP/PPy nanocomposites were prepared by melt-mixing of polypyrrole with polypropylene (PP) and processed with injection molding. Tensile tests have revealed that increasing amount of PPy increased the strength and the stiffness of the nanocomposite while limiting the elongation of PP. Thermal gravimetric analysis has showed that incorporation of PPy nanoparticles has improved the thermal stability of the nanocomposi...
Synthesis and characterization of hydrogenphophate-stabilized nizkel(0) nanoclusters as catalyst for the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride
Metin, Önder; Özkar, Saim; Department of Chemistry (2006)
The development of new storage materials will facilitate the use of hydrogen as a major energy carrier in near future. In hydrogen economy, chemical hydrides such as NaBH4, KBH4, LiH, NaH have been tested as hydrogen storage materials for supplying hydrogen at ambient temperature. Among these chemical hydrides, sodium borohydride seems to be an ideal hydrogen storage material because it is stable under ordinary conditions and liberates hydrogen gas in a safe and controllable way in aqueous solutions. Howeve...
