Identification of parameters of an induction motor from field solution

2003-11-11
This paper illustrates how the equivalent circuit parameters of an induction motor can be predicted from a 2D numerical field solution of the magnetic field. The approach presented requires a circuit-coupled 2D harmonic solution of the field (accounting for saturation) under no load and rated slip conditions. These solutions take only some minutes on a modern computer and are very suitable for the design office where quick solutions are much preferred as the effects of design changes can be quickly assessed. Parameters can be predicted using no-load and locked rotor tests on the FE model. In this approach it is not possible to separate the rotor and stator leakage reactances. The approach presented allows calculation of resistances, magnetizing reactance and separation of leakage reactances. The accuracy level of the predictions is illustrated by applying the method to two different motors from different manufacturers.

Characterization of the distribution of rotational torque on electrorotation chips with 3D electrodes
Bahrieh, Garsha; Ozgur, Ebru; Koyuncuoglu, Aziz; Erdem, Murat; Gündüz, Ufuk; Külah, Haluk (2015-08-01)
This is a study of in-plane and out-of-plane distribution of rotational torque (ROT-T) and effective electric field (EEF) on electrorotation (ER) devices with 3D electrodes using finite element modeling (FEM) and experimental method. The objective of this study is to investigate electrical characteristics of the ER devices with five different electrode geometries and obtain an optimum structure for ER experiments. Further, it provides a comparison between characteristics of the 3D electrodes and traditional...
Determination of rotor slot number of an induction motor using an external search coil
Keysan, Ozan; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent (null; 2009-12-01)
This paper describes determination of the number rotor slots of an induction motor from the induced emf in an external search coil. This information is needed in prediction of motor speed from the external search coil induced voltage. The approach is based on identifying saliency harmonics and rotor slot harmonics, via FFT analysis of the external search coil emf. The proposed approach is tested on an induction motor driven by the mains supply. The experiments are repeated with a PWM supply. It is shown tha...
Search for new physics in the multijet and missing transverse momentum final state in proton-proton collisions at root s=8 Tev
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-06-01)
A search for new physics is performed in multijet events with large missing transverse momentum produced in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8TeV using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb(-1) collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample is divided into three jet multiplicity categories (3-5, 6-7, and >= 8 jets), and studied further in bins of two variables: the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta and the missing transverse momentum. The observed numbers of ...
Measurement of differential cross sections for the production of a pair of isolated photons in pp collisions at root s=7TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-11-01)
A measurement of differential cross sections for the production of a pair of isolated photons in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1) collected with the CMS detector. A data-driven isolation template method is used to extract the prompt diphoton yield. The measured cross section for two isolated photons, with transverse energy above 40 and 25 GeV respectively, in the pseudorapidity range vertical bar eta vertical bar ...
Measurements of the electron and muon inclusive cross-sections in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2012-02-07)
This Letter presents measurements of the differential cross-sections for inclusive electron and muon production in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV, using data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The muon cross-section is measured as a function of p(T) in the range 4 < p(T) < 100 GeV and within pseudorapidity vertical bar eta vertical bar < 2.5. In addition the electron and muon cross-sections are measured in the range 7 < p(T) < 26 GeV and within vertical bar et...
