MODULATION OF CYTOCHROME P450s AND ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES BY CAFFEIC ACID, p-COUMARIC ACID AND QUERCETIN-RICH ANATOLIAN PROPOLIS IN HUMAN ADENOCARCINOMA HT-29 CELLS
ALTAY, AHMET; İrtem Kartal, Deniz; Sagdicoglu-Celep, Gulcin; Güray, Nülüfer Tülün; Bozoglu, Faruk (2018-01-01)
Propolis, which is a complex resinous material has diverse pharmacological and biological properties. Phase I and II enzymes are responsible for detoxication and elimination of activated carcinogens, acting as important biomarkers for chemoprevention. Among them, cytochrome P450s plays a prominent role in metabolic activation of xenobiotics. This study was designed to investigate the in vitro modulatory effects of Anatolian propolis and its phenolic contents; caffeic acid, quercetin and p-coumaric acid on t...
Modulation of mRNA expression and activities of xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes, CYP1A1, CYP1A2, CYP2E1, GPx and GSTP1 by the Salicornia freitagii extract in HT-29 human colon cancer cells
ALTAY, AHMET; İrtem Kartal, Deniz; SADİ, GÖKHAN; Güray, Nülüfer Tülün; YAPRAK, AHMET EMRE (2017-01-01)
Phase I-II detoxification and antioxidant enzymes are responsible for the detoxification and elimination of activated carcinogens, acting as important biomarkers for chemoprevention. Among them, cytochrome P450s plays a prominent role in the metabolic activation of xenobiotics. The herb Salicornia freitagii (SF) (Amaranthaceae) is known for its anticancer, antioxidant, antidiabetic and antiinflammatory activities. In this study, we determined the bioactive phenolics in the SF methanol extract and investigat...
Modulation of internal charge transfer (ICT) in a bay region hydroxylated perylenediimide (PDI) chromophore: a chromogenic chemosensor for pH
Yukruk, F; Akkaya, EU (Elsevier BV, 2005-08-29)
A novel perylenediimide derivative which has a bay region hydroxyl function behaves as a pH-sensitive dye. The deprotonation of the aryl-OH yields a green solution with a lambda(max) x of 692 nm and this deprotonated form has strong internal charge transfer characteristics. On reprotonation in acidic solutions, the typical PDI absorbance spectrum is restored. The experimentally determined pK(a) (7.45) is very close to physiological pH, therefore the most significant changes in color take place in the vicini...
Modulation of human flavin-containing monooxygenase 3 activity by tricyclic antidepressants and other agents: Importance of residue 428
Adalı, Orhan; Philpot, RM (Elsevier BV, 1998-10-01)
Human flavin-containing monooxygenase 3 (FMO3) is subject to modulation by tricyclic antidepressants and other agents. Imipramine activates FMO3-catalyzed metabolism of methimazole at all substrate concentrations tested. This distinguishes FMO3 from rabbit FMO1 and FMO2, which are activated at high substrate concentration and inhibited at low substrate concentration, and pig FMO1, which is inhibited at all substrate concentrations. The response of FMO3 is also unique in that chlorpromazine is markedly more ...
