We consider optical couplers that consists of optimal arrangements of nanoparticles to improve the transmission abilities of nanowire systems with sharp bends. Previously, it was shown that absence/existence of nanoparticles in a given grid can be optimized such that the power transmission can significantly be increased without smoothing the bend. In this contribution, we present the sensitivity of coupler performances to the particle geometries. Numerical results demonstrate a high dependency of coupler characteristics to particle types due to strong plasmonic interactions at short distances. These findings further support the need for case-dependent optimization.

Nano-Optical Couplers for Efficient Power Transmission Along Sharply Bended Nanowires
Altinoklu, Askin; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2019-02-01)
We consider nano-optical couplers that consist of optimal arrangements of nanoparticles to improve the transmission abilities of nanowire systems with sharp bends. Previously, it was shown that absence/existence of nanoparticles in a given grid can be optimized such that the power transmission can significantly be increased without curving the bend. In this contribution, we present a detailed investigation and analysis of coupler performances to critical geometric parameters. While the designed couplers are...
Penetrable Numerical Modeling of Metallic Nanoparticles at Terahertz Frequencies
İbili, Hande; Karaosmanoglu, B.; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2018-08-04)
Numerical solutions of electromagnetic problems involving nanostructures at terahertz (THz) frequencies are considered. We particularly focus on nanoparticles that are made of typical metals at the lower THz frequencies. Even though the frequency is relatively low, we show that penetrable models are needed for accurately representing electromagnetic characteristics, especially to predict penetrating magnetic fields inside small particles. Due to large permittivity values with negative real parts, stable for...
RF Coil Design for MRI Applications in Inhomogeneous Main Magnetic Fields
Yılmaz, Ayşen; Eyueboglu, B. M. (2006-09-01)
Conventional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques require homogeneous main magnetic fields. However, MRI applications that are executed in inhomogenous main magnetic fields have been developed in recent years. In this study, RF coil geometries are designed for MRI applications in inhomogeneous magnetic fields. Method of moments is used to obtain the current density distribution on a predefined surface that can produce a desired magnetic field, which is perpendicular to the given inhomogenous main mag...
Coil sensitivity map calculation using biot-savart law at 3 tesla and parallel imaging in MRI
Esin, Yunus Emre; Alpaslan, Ferda Nur; Department of Computer Engineering (2017)
Coil spatial sensitivity map is considered as one of the most valuable data used in parallel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reconstruction. In this study, a novel sensitivity map extraction method is introduced for phased-array coils. Proposed technique uses Biot-Savart law with coil shape information and low-resolution phase image data to form sensitivity maps. The performance of this method has been tested in the parallel image reconstruction task using sensitivity encoding technique. In MRI, coil sensi...
Adaptive Control of Necklace States in a Photonic Crystal Waveguide
Yüce, Emre; Sokolov, Sergei; Bertolotti, Jacopo; Combrie, Sylvain; Lehoucq, Gaelle; De Rossi, Alfredo; Mosk, Allard P. (2018-10-01)
Resonant cavities with high quality factor and small mode volume provide crucial enhancement of light matter interactions in nanophotonic devices that transport and process classical and quantum information. The production of functional circuits containing many such cavities remains a major challenge, as inevitable imperfections in the fabrication detune the cavities, which strongly affects functionality such as transmission. In photonic crystal waveguides, intrinsic disorder gives rise to high-Q localized ...
