Two different ordered TiO2 structures were prepared as sol-gel films coated on glass and as mesoporous structures in order to study the effect, in 2-D or in 3-D, of bulk size on photocatalytic activity. Multilayer TiO2 films were coated on glass by the sol-gel dip coating method. The UV-VIS characteristics of the films, with respect to the number of coating layers, were monitored. UV-VIS measurements implied an ordered TiO2 structure grown on ITO glass. The second approach involved loading TiO2 in mesoporous SBA-15 powder. Ti-SBA-15 with Ti/Si (mole/mole) ratios between 0.05 and 0.30 were prepared and characterized by XRD and BET. Low-angle XRD results of Ti-SBA-15 samples demonstrated long-range order, and the mesoporous structure of SBA-15 was preserved under all titanium loadings. Wide-angle XRD results of Ti-SBA-15 samples demonstrated no crystallinity for TiO2 at low Ti loadings (0.05 and 0.10), and the onset of crystal formation at the 0.15 loading. The rutile phase was observed to be the dominant phase for lower loadings (0.20), whereas the anatase phase was dominant at higher loadings (0.25 and 0.30). BET surface areas decreased slightly with the addition of TiO2 in SBA-15.

Validation of 3D finite element solution for laterally loaded passive piles
Ekici, A.; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan (2014-06-20)
Three full scale field experiments reported by De Beer&Wallays (1972) and Esu&D'Elia (1974) have been modeled using 3D finite element method with PLAXIS 3D. Shear box models were established to eliminate the effect of site geometries and slope angles which were not reported in these cases. Lateral movement of an unstable soil and loading of passive piles were generated by prescribed horizontal surface displacements in the upper half of the shear box model. Measured field values of pile deflection, bending m...
Image-based extraction of material reflectance properties of a 3D object
Erdem, Mehmet Erkut; Atalay, Mehmet Volkan; Department of Computer Engineering (2003)
In this study, an appearance reconstruction method based on extraction of material re?ectance properties of a three-dimensional (3D) object from its twodimensional (2D) images is explained. One of the main advantages of this system is that the reconstructed object can be rendered in real-time with photorealistic quality in varying illumination conditions. Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Functions (BRDFs) are used in representing the reflectance of the object. The reflectance of the object is decompos...

In this study, an appearance reconstruction method based on extraction of material reflectance properties of a three-dimensional (3D) object from its two-dimensional (2D) images is explained. One of the main advantages of this system is that the reconstructed object can be rendered in real-time with photorealistic quality in varying illumination conditions. The reflectance of the object is decomposed into diffuse and specular components. While the diffuse component is stored in a global texture, the specula...
Preparation of BTS-BCT thin films by chemical solution deposition and their characterization /
Akbay, Berk; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2015)
In the presented thesis, lead-free Ba(Ti0.88Sn0.12)O3-0.3(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3 (BTS-BCT) thin films were deposited on (111)-Pt/TiO2/SiO2/(100)-Si substrates using chemical solution deposition method and then the effect of process parameters were investigated to obtain optimum parameters of these lead-free thin films. The phase was selected near to the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) to increase the number of polarization directions where rhombohedral and tetragonal phases exist together. In this study, the eff...
