The enhancement of the extraction of silver from Artvin-Kafkasor ore have been studied by the application of bio-oxidation with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. The effects of various parameters such as bacterial treatment duration, inoculum size and growth kinetics were investigated. The bacterial treatment of -208 mum size ore with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans before cyanidation resulted in silver recoveries of above 60% while direct cyanidation could only yield 40.36% silver recovery.

Effect of Polymers on the Rheological Properties of KCl Polymer Type Drilling Fluid
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2005-05-01)
In the course of this research, the effect of two polymers (xanthan gum and polyanionic cellulose) on the rheological properties of KCl/polymer type drilling fluids was investigated. Non-Newtonian drilling fluids are conventionally characterized by rheological models (Bingham Plastic, Power Law, Casson, Herchel-Bulkley and Robertson-Stiff). In this research, forty-five KCl/polymer data sets of varying compositions are prepared. Polymer addition to the system has affected the model and caused a variation of ...
Effect of swaging on microstructure and tensile properties of W-Ni-Fe alloys
DURLU, NURİ; Caliskan, N. Kaan; Bor, Sakir (Elsevier BV, 2014-01-01)
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of swaging on the microstructure and tensile properties of high density two phase alloys 90W-7Ni-3Fe and 93W-4.9Ni-2.1Fe. Samples were liquid phase sintered under hydrogen and argon at 1480 degrees C for 30 min and then 15% cold rotary swaged. Measurement of microstructural parameters in the sintered and swaged samples showed that swaging slightly increased tungsten grain size in the longitudinal direction and slightly decreased tungsten grain size i...
Effect of ionic strength on the performance of polymer enhanced ultrafiltration in heavy metal removal from aqueous solutions
İslamoğlu, Sezin; Yılmaz, Levent; Department of Chemical Engineering (2006)
Effect of ionic strength on the efficiency of heavy metal removal and recovery from aqueous solutions via continuous mode polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF) method was examined. Application of PEUF to divalent ions of cadmium, nickel and zinc after their prior linking with polyethylenimine (PEI) results in complete removal of metal ions from single component aqueous solutions at high pHs. Binding ability and hence the extent of metal retention in high ionic strength medium exhibits differences between ...
Effect of pulp rheology on flotation of nickel sulphide ore with fibrous gangue particles
Genc, A. Merve; Kilickaplan, I.; Laskowski, J. S. (2012-10-01)
Tests are carried out with suspensions of fibrous chrysotile particles and nickel sulphide ore containing chrysotile as a gangue. They corroborate published results, and indicate a very strong effect of particle shape on slurry rheology. Such suspensions exhibit time dependent properties. The flotation tests revealed that the viscosity of this system strongly affects flotation performance. At a solids concentration of 15-20% (w/w), the concentrate yield increases and the concentrate grade dramatically decli...
Effect of Carboxy Methyl Cellulose and Determination of Pore Throat Criteria for Water-based Drilling Fluids
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this research, the effect of carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) on the rheological properties of two different water-based drilling fluids was studied. It was observed that the fluid loss decreased as CMC concentration increased, but the rate of decrease was too low to notice after 1 gr. CMC. It was also observed that shear stress increased as the CMC concentration increased. Experimentally, it was observed that 1 gr. CMC/350 ml of drilling fluid slurry is sufficiently appropriate for optimum rheological eff...
