A GIS based spatial data analysis in Knidian amphora workshops in Reşadiye
Kıroğlu, M. Fatih; Tuna, Numan; Düzgün, Şebnem; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2003)
The main objective of this study is to determine main activity locations and correlation between different artifact types in an archaeological site with geographical information systems (GIS) and spatial data analyses. Knidian amphora workshops in Datça peninsula are studied in order to apply GIS and spatial statistical techniques. GIS capabilities are coupled with some spatial statistical software and spatial data analysis steps are followed. Both point and area datasets are examined for the effective anal...
A wave climate study for an LNG terminal near Marmara Ereglisi, Turkey
Akyarli, A; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet (1997-01-01)
A liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal has been constructed near Marmara Ereglisi - a coastal town located at the northern coast of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey - to unload imported LNG from Algeria. Regarding the wave related issues in the design of the terminal and offshore operations, a wave climate study - comprising direct wave measurements carried out by a directional type wave buoy during one year period and hindcasting studies based on ten years of hourly wind data recorded at Tekirdag meteorologica...
A chemical substitution study for a wet processing textile mill in Turkey
Ozturk, Ertan; Yetiş, Ülkü; Dilek, Filiz Bengü; Demirer, Goksel N. (2009-01-01)
Wet processing textile industry has many different processing stages (dyeing, sizing, de-sizing, scouring, softening, etc.). Many chemicals currently used in the wet processing textile industry affect the amount and the type of waste produced and their influence on the aquatic life of the receiving stream. One of the critical steps in pollution prevention studies is auditing the use of chemicals and making the necessary chemical substitutions. This chemical substitution study was conducted on one of the maj...
A chemical substitution study for a wet processing textile mill in Turkey
Öztürk, Ertan; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi; Department of Environmental Engineering (2007)
The main environmental concern in the textile industry is about the amount of water discharged and the chemical load it carries. The total quantity of chemicals used in textile mills varies from 10% to over 100% of the weight of the cloth produced. Many chemicals currently used in the textile industry affect the amount and the type of waste produced and their influence the aquatic life of the receiving stream. One of the critical steps in pollution prevention studies is auditing the use of chemicals and mak...
A net plankton study in the Bosphorus junction of the Sea of Marmara
Uysal, Zahit (1995-01-01)
A 16-month study of diatoms (>55 micrometers) and certain groups of Zooplankton was carried out at 21 stations in the Bosphorus junction of the Sea Marmara on board the FW "Bilim". The maximum diatom bloom was observed in January 1986, followed by a less frequent secondary flowering in summer. Both the diatom and Zooplankton maxima were observed at 10 m. The lowest levels were attained below the halocline at a depth of 30 m. Remarkable variations, both in the species composition and abundance of diatoms, we...
