The anatomy, morphology and distribution of the trichomes on the aerial parts of Lamium truncatum Boiss. were studied in order to understand the usefulness of these characteristics for systematic purposes. L. truncatum is a Mediterranean element which grows on shady hedge banks, glades, Quercus coccifera L. macchie and forest at an altitude of 300-1650 m in the eastern part of the Mediterranean region of Turkey, western Syria, Palaestina and Israel. Some anatomical characters such as the distances of vascular bundles between the corners in the stem, the number of palisade and spongy parenchyma layer of the leaf blade, and the petiole anatomy provide information of taxonomical significance. Three main types of trichomes (peltate, capitate glandular and non-glandular) were observed on the stem, inflorescence axis, leaf and calyx surfaces of L. truncatum. Glandular trichomes were present in abundance on the inflorescence axis, calyx, abaxial side of the leaf especially on veins, and apex of the filament, but non-glandular ones were mainly situated on the leaf and stem. Moreover, notes on morphology and nutlet features of the species are given.

Anatomy, trichome morphology and palynology of Salvia chrysophylla Stapf (Lamiaceae)
Kahraman, A.; Celep, F.; Doğan, Musa (Elsevier BV, 2010-4)
The anatomy, palynology, morphology and distribution of the trichomes on the aerial parts of Salvia chrysophylla Stapf, an endemic species in Turkey, were studied in order to understand the usefulness of these characteristics for systematic purposes. Some anatomical characters such as (1-)2-24-rowed pith rays in roots, dorsiventral leaves, obviously larger upper epidermal cells, and two to three large vascular bundles in the center and two to four small subsidiary bundles in the wings of petiole provide inf...
Morphology, anatomy and systematics of the genus Lathyrus l. (Legumınosae) in Central Anatolia, Turkey
Çildir, Hüseyin; Doğan, Musa; Department of Biology (2011)
In this study, morphology, anatomy and systematics of the Genus Lathyrus L. (Leguminosae) in Central Anatolia is presented. Comparative morphological characters and their variation in the Genus; Calyx, leaf, corolla and pollen grains micro-morphology of the species; Anatomy of the species; Ecology, endemism, phytogeography and IUCN threat categories of the species; Numerical analysis and Revision of the genus in Central Anatolia were conducted. For the first time the calyx, corolla and leaf micromorphology,...
Anatomy, palynology and floral diversity of the genus lamium l. (lamiaceae) in Turkey
Atalay, Zeynep; Doğan, Musa; Department of Biology (2016)
Lamium L. is the type genus of subfamily Lamioideae and the family Lamiaceae. Due to the absence of recognizable morphological characters, circumscription of the genus has undergone many changes through time. Turkey is the main biodiversity center of the genus with 36 taxa, 18 of which are endemic. Even though many genera in the subfamiliy Lamioideae have been subjected to various anatomical and micromorphological studies, a comprehensive investigation of the genus Lamium is still lacking. In the first part...
Morphology, anatomy and systematics of the genus Salvia l. (Lamiaceae) in East and Southeast Anatolia, Turkey
Kahraman, Ahmet; Doğan, Musa; Department of Biology (2011)
This study aims to revise the genus Salvia L. in East and Southeast Anatolia in Turkey on the basis of macromorphological, anatomical, palynological, mericarp micro-morphological, ecological and numerical analysis. Towards achieving this goal, about 2500 specimens of Salvia were collected and examined during extensive field studies between July 2005 and June 2009. The materials collected by other researchers either from Turkey or abroad were also investigated. The results of the taxonomic revision show that...
Morphological character analysis in Turkish Micromeria Benth. (Lamiaceae) species with a numerical taxonomic study
ARABACI, TURAN; DİRMENCİ, TUNCAY; Celep, Ferhat (2010-01-01)
As an initial part of a revisional study based on the genus Micromeria Benth. (Lamiaceae), extensive field studies, herbarium and literature surveys, and multivariate analysis have been conducted. Recently, many morphological and molecular studies have been conducted on the genus Micromeria and related genera. Consequently, the generic boundaries of Micromeria have dramatically changed. Therefore, a morphometric analysis was carried out on Turkish Micromeria s.l. species, belonging to sect. Micromeria, sect...
