In this paper a simple printed slot antenna with an enhanced bandwidth based on self-complementary structures is presented for UWB applications. The proposed antenna consists of a square radiating patch with a microstrip feed-line defected by an inverted U-shaped slot on one side, a rectangular slot and a defected ground plane by an inverted U-shaped strip protruded from rectangular slot on the other side. The antenna provides a wide usable fractional bandwidth of more than 100% (3.2-10.5 GHz). This large operating bandwidth is obtained by choosing suitable dimensions for the proposed quasi-self-complementary matching circuit. The designed antenna has a small volume of 20x20x0.8 mm(3). It exhibits almost omnidirectional radiation pattern with low cross polarization level.

A Novel Neural Network Method for Direction of Arrival Estimation with Uniform Cylindrical 12-Element Microstrip Patch Array
Caylar, Selcuk; Dural, Guelbin; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2008-01-01)
In this study a new neural network algorithm is proposed for real time multiple source tracking problem with cylindrical patch antenna array based on a previous v reported Modified Neural Multiple Source Tracking Algorithm(MN-MUST). The proposed algorithm, namely Cylindrical Microstrip Patch Array Modified Neural Multiple Source Tracking Algorithm (CMN-MUST) implements W-MUST algorithm on a cylindrical microsttip patch array structure. CMN-MUST algorithm uses the advantage of directive pattern of microstrip...
Design of asymmetric coplanar strip folded dipole antennas /
Karaciğer, Kamil; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
This thesis includes the design, simulation, production and measurement of an asymmetric coplanar strip folded dipole antenna suitable to be used as an element in a linear array operating at S-band (2.7 GHz - 3.3 GHz). In this same manner, its usefulness as an array antenna is also explored in this thesis. This antenna element consists of a microstrip line feed, microstrip to coplanar stripline transition (BALUN) and asymmetric coplanar strip (ACPS) folded dipole. The planar folded dipole can be constructed...
The effect of antenna position and environment on MIMO channel capacity for a 4 element array mounted on a PDA.
Dumanli, Sema; Tabak, Yasemin; Railton, Chris; Paul, Dominique; Hilton, Geoff (2006-09-12)
The properties of a four element slot antenna array mounted on a PDA for a MIMO system are investigated by means of a Finite Difference Time Domain analysis and a multipath channel model. The effects of changing the positions of the antenna elements on the PDA box and the effect of the box being held in a human hand are investigated.
A dielectrophoretic cell/particle separator fabricated by spiral channels and concentric gold electrodes
Yilmaz, G.; Çiftlik, A.T.; Külah, Haluk (2009-12-14)
This paper presents the design and implementation of a novel dielectrophoresis (DEP) system with spiral channels and concentric electrodes for high resolution cell separation applications. The device is fabricated with a 4 mask parylene process and the design is optimized in MATLAB Simulink reg to confine the operation. Tests with micro particles of different sizes are performed to show size-based separation by dielectrophoresis. Proposed device is also tested with K562 leukemia cell lines to prove that the...
A High Throughput Lab-On-A-Chip System for Label Free Quantification of Breast Cancer Cells under Continuous Flow
ASLAN, MUSTAFA YASİN; Yalçın, Yasemin; Ozgur, E.; Gündüz, Ufuk; Eminoglu, S.; Külah, Haluk; Akın, Tayfun (Elsevier BV; 2016-05-27)
This paper presents an LOC system combining microfluidic DEP channel with a CMOS image sensor for label and lens free detection and real-time counting of MCF-7 cells under continuous flow. Trapped and then released MCF-7 cells are accurately detected and counted under flow with a CMOS image sensor integrated underneath the DEP channel, for the first time in the literature. CMOS image sensor can capture 391 frames per second (fps) that allows detection of the released cells flowing through the channel with a...
