Effect of welding parameters on the susceptibility to hydrogen cracking in line pipe steels in sour environments
Yavaş, Özgür; Doruk, Mustafa; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2006)
In this study, hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) behavior of welded steels used in petroleum lines under sour petroleum environments was investigated. The testing environment in NACE TM0284-2003 standard was used in order to simulate sour petroleum environment. In order to investigate behavior of welding parameters, used in pipe production, on HIC, welds were done with different line energies. Two different API X-65 steels were used in welding operations. The specimens taken from welded zones were tested in t...

Effect of pH on erythropoietin production by recombinant Pichia pastoris in fed-batch operation
Soyaslan, Elif Şükran; Çalık, Pınar; Department of Chemical Engineering (2010)
In this study, the effects of pH on therapeutically important protein, recombinant human erythropoietin (rhuEPO), production by Pichia pastoris was investigated at pH=4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0. rHuEPO production was started by methanol induction in fed-batch mode. The highest cell concentration was obtained at pH=4.5 as 81.4 g L-1. The co-substrate substrate sorbitol, which was added batch-wise, was consumed at t=15 h of the operations at pH=4.0, 4.5 and 5.0. However as the pH increases above pH=5.0 the so...

Effect of preparation and operation parameters on performance of polyethersulfone based mixed matrix gas separation membranes
Karatay, Elif; Yılmaz, Levent; Department of Chemical Engineering (2009)
Membrane processes have been considered as promising alternatives to other competing technologies in gas separation industry. Developing new membrane morphologies are required to improve the gas permeation properties of the membranes. Mixed matrix membranes composing of polymer matrices and distributed inorganic/organic particles are among the promising, developing membrane materials. In this study, the effect of low molecular weight additive (LMWA) type and concentration on the gas separation performance o...
