A distributed online curriculum and courseware development model (DONC(2)) is developed and tested in this study. Courseware development teams which may work in different institutions who need to develop high quality, reduced cost, on time products will be the users of DONC(2). The related features from the disciplines of instructional design and software engineering were combined. The research is conducted as a collective case study, including four cases with distinctive characteristics to reveal the several practices in online curriculum and courseware development work. The DONC(2) development model was proposed using the results gathered from the investigated cases and a literature survey. The model uses the iterative incremental and agile software development approaches in order to overcome the disadvantages of other linear development approaches. This enables building releasable yet good quality products in short time periods. Furthermore, continuous communication, evaluation and feedback as well as good project management and readiness to adapt to changes are integrated as the essential characteristics. DONC(2) is different then previous linear and non-adaptive models in all of these aspects. The model was tested with one of the cases while being improved with success. It was applied as a development model for scheduling of the courseware development project in the last case and considered as helpful for the success of the project by the project team members.

A distributed online curriculum and courseware development model
Durdu, Pınar Onay; Yalabık, Neşe; Department of Information Systems (2007)
A distributed online curriculum and courseware (DONC2) development model is proposed in this study. Collaborative courseware development teams which may work in distributed academic or private institutions who need to develop higher quality, reduced cost, on time products are the users of DONC2 development model. The related features from the disciplines of instructional design and software engineering were combined and concepts like usability, especially in terms of formative and summative evaluation, inte...
A Mobile Teacher Professional Development Course on Digital Game-Enhanced Language Learning
Başoğlu, Emrah Baki; Akkuş Çakır, Nur; Department of Curriculum and Instruction (2022-4-21)
The purpose of this design and development research study was to develop a mobile teacher professional development (mTPD) course on Digital Game-Enhanced Language Learning (DGELL) and to evaluate this course by investigating language instructors’ perceptions and application of knowledge about DGELL. The mTPD course was designed leveraging mobile learning to offer ultimate accessibility and flexibility to the teachers and it was developed in three iterative cycles with 44 English language instructors. Data w...
A software workforce assessment model
Tanrıöver, Ö. Özgür; Demirös, Onur; Department of Information Systems (2002)
This thesis develops a software practitioner assessment model based on practices and roles defined in SW-CMM (Software Capability Maturity Model) [Paulk 1995] and knowledge units defined in SWEBOK (Software Engineering Body of Knowledge) [Hillburn et al. 1999] to assess emergent software organizations. The aim behind this model is to provide a remedy for the main shortcomings of current software process assessment methods: fully assessing process and technology but not people. Assessment model development i...
An Agile business process software development methodology
Çulha, Davut; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2014)
An agile business process software development methodology is proposed, developed and tested in this research. To speed up the business process software development practices in the organization and to address the requirements more efficiently, an agile approach was adapted. Two new processes were developed using the new methodology. The improvement was assessed by utilizing nine older developments: A formula was developed in this research that estimates the development efforts for old business process soft...
A framework for a personalized e-learning system
Özpolat, Ebru; Akar, Gözde; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
This thesis focuses on three of the main components of an e-learning system: Infrastructure model, data integration and personalization. For the infrastructure model, our aim is to get best use of heterogeneously structured, geographically distributed data resources. Therefore, a detailed analysis of the available infrastructure models is carried out and an open source reference implementation based on grid technology is implemented. Furthermore, a simple data integration mechanism is proposed for the sugge...
