Currently, there are more than 300 undergraduate engineering programs in the USA accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET). Since its inception as the Engineers' Council for Professional Development (ECPD) in 1932, this body has primary responsibility for monitoring, evaluating, and certifying the quality of engineering education programs in the USA. In this paper, a brief history and the purpose of ABET are given to familiarize the reader with the accreditation practice in the USA. The process of the accreditation cycle is then described in detail based on the literature ABET publishes and the visits that one such engineering education program in the USA went through over the years.

When will high school defend its science education against University?
Sonmez, Murat (2011-10-30)
Since the entrance of the graduates of technical high schools to engineering programs is hindered, in application, graduates of general or science high schools are only accepted into engineering education. For these students, four years are not sufficient to teach the basic and the related application courses of the profession. Looking at the existing curriculum of mechanical engineering, it can be seen that in the 1st Year, the physics and chemistry courses repeat the content of the ones given in high scho...
Evaluation of Peer Mentoring Program in Higher Education: Does it Support Smooth Transition of New Faculty to the Academia?
Eret, Esra; Güneri, Oya; Çapa Aydın, Yeşim (2018-12-01)
Faculty mentoring programs are implemented in higher education institutions to support faculty development. Within this respect, the aim of this study was to explore the views and suggestions of mentors and mentees in relation to the effectiveness of the mentoring program in a large state university in Ankara. The study had a qualitative design and semi-structured interview schedule was used to collect data. The sample included 8 mentors and 9 mentees. The qualitative data obtained through interviews were a...
Improved physarum polycephalum shortest path algorithm with preconditioned iterative methods
Keskiner, Hamide Hande; Manguoğlu, Murat; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
Algorithms for finding the shortest path has many applications in Computer Science, or in other areas of science and engineering. Network optimizations, artificial intelligence and robotics are just a few examples where efficient computation of the shortest path is needed. Various algorithms have been proposed to solve this fundamental problem. Physarum Solver is biologically inspired method that deals with this problem. In the end, a sparse linear system needs to be solved at each iteration of the algorith...

Technology adoption of medical faculty in teaching: Differentiating factors in adopter categories
ZAYIM, Nese; Yıldırım, İbrahim Soner; SAKA, Osman (2006-01-01)
Despite large investments by higher education institutions in technology for faculty and student use, instructional technology is not being integrated into instruction in higher education institutions including medical education institutions. While the diffusion of instructional technologies has reached a saturation point among early adopters of technology, it has remained limited among the mainstream faculty. This investigation explores instructional technology usage patterns and the characteristics of med...
