Automatic target detection has an important application field in today's missile technology. Therefore, there are many studies in this field. In this context, morphological operation (MO) based methods were firstly investigated and tested on the prepared scenarios. As a results of test results, methods were compared on the basis of the detection performance, user defined parameter quantity and processing time. After comparison results, the methods are determined which has better detection performance, do not need any user-defined parameters and have a minimum processing time.

Automatic small target detection in synthetic infrared images
YARDIMCI, Ozan; Ulusoy, İlkay (2017-04-11)
Automatic detection of targets from far distances is a very challenging problem. Background clutter and small target size are the main difficulties which should be solved while reaching a high detection performance as well as a low computational load. The pre-processing, detection and post-processing approaches are very effective on the final results. In this study, first of all, various methods in the literature were evaluated separately for each of these stages using the simulated test scenarios. Then, a ...
Airport runway detection in satellite images by Adaboost Learning
ZÖNGÜR, Ugur; Halıcı, Uğur; AYTEKİN, Orsan; Ulusoy, İlkay (2009-09-03)
Advances in hardware and pattern recognition techniques, along with the widespread utilization of remote sensing satellites, have urged the development of automatic target detection systems in satellite images. Automatic detection of airports is particularly essential, due to the strategic importance of these targets. In this paper, a runway detection method using a segmentation process based on textural properties is proposed for the detection of airport runways, which is the most distinguishing element of...
Low velocity moving target detection with synthetic aperture radar
Narin, Görkem; Koç, Seyit Sencer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
Detection of slow moving targets with small radar cross sections (RCS) is a challenging problem for the Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) systems. GMTI systems face high false alarm and/or frequent target miss rates for such targets. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems, on the other hand, offer sufficiently large target energy return, unfortunately not localized to a point in the SAR image due to target motion. This thesis is focused on the study of two methods for moving target detection in SAR ima...
The Flare Effectiveness against Imaging Infrared Seekers
Yurttas, Ragip; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2013-04-26)
As the focal plane array (FPA) infrared detector technology is developed, imaging infrared seeker guided missiles threaten air platforms more in recent years. In this paper, the effectiveness of MTV flares, which are used to protect air platforms against this type of threats, is evaluated. For this purpose, a simulation software, which includes G/M model with IIR seeker, MTV flare model and F 16 air platform model, is developed.
Through-The-Wall Target Detection using GPR A-Scan Data: Effects of Different Wall Structures on Detection Performance
DOĞAN, MESUT; Sayan, Gönül (2017-09-27)
Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is an electromagnetic sensor based on the ultra-wideband radar technology that can also be used for through-the-wall (TTW) target recognition. Search for the presence of designated targets hidden behind the walls, such as stationary or moving human bodies or certain types of weapons, is addressed in various critical applications; in rescue missions after earthquakes or in military operations, etc. In such inverse problems, type of the wall is as important as the properties and...
