In this study, we numerically investigate the effects of substrate parameters (i.e., the thickness and the permittivity) on the resonance frequency of the double-sided SRR (DSRR) structure under two different excitation conditions. This includes either electric or magnetic excitations which are two common techniques to obtain a resonant effective permittivity or permeability, respectively. The numerical calculations are performed using CST Microwave Studio. The numerical results reveal a similar trend in the DSRR response as the substrate permittivity values are varied for either electric or magnetic excitation while an opposite behavior is observed for changes of the substrate thickness.

Effects of Array Dimensions on the Resonance Characteristics of SRR Type Metamaterial Arrays with Small Sizes: Simulations and Experiments
Ekmekci, E.; Topalli, K.; Akın, Tayfun; Sayan, Gönül (2009-08-21)
It has been discussed in various studies that two dimensional periodical arrays of SRRs with large array sizes have wider stop bandwidths and lower transmission magnitudes around their resonance frequencies as compared to the single SRR unit cell. In this paper, effects of array dimensions on the transmission characteristics of SRR arrays are investigated in more detail especially for small sized arrays in a comparative manner. For this purpose, various SRR arrays with small array sizes are fabricated and t...
Effect of thermal induced flexural strain cycles on the low cycle fatigue performance of integral bridge steel H-piles
Karalar, Memduh; Dicleli, Murat (2016-10-01)
Close examination of the field measurement data for integral bridges revealed that the measured cyclic flexural strains in steel H-piles at the abutments due to thermal fluctuations consist of large amplitude, primary small amplitude and secondary small amplitude cycles. The effect of the small amplitude strain cycles on the low cycle fatigue life of these steel H-piles has not been extensively studied yet. Accordingly, to investigate the effect of the small amplitude strain cycles on the low cycle fatigue ...
Effect of Flare Geometry on the Flow Field of Radial-Radial Swirlers
Bay, Ayse; Kiyici, Firat; Perçin, Mustafa (2022-01-01)
In this study, an experimental investigation is conducted to assess the impact of the flare geometry on the mean flow field generated by radial-radial swirlers. Two-dimensional two component PIV measurements are performed on the mid-plane of a non-reacting planar combustor test section. Three dimensional numerical simulations are conducted for selected cases to support experimental observations. In a previous study conducted in the same setup, counter-rotating radial-radial swirlers without flare extension ...
Effect of preparation parameters on performance of dense homogeneous polycarbonate gas separation membranes
Hacarlioglu, P; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yılmaz, Levent (Wiley, 2003-10-17)
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of preparation parameters on the membrane permeation mechanism and separation performances of dense homogeneous poly(bisphenol A carbonate) (PC) membranes. Blade-casting and drop-casting techniques are used for casting films from solutions with varying concentrations. Chloroform and methylene chloride are used to determine the effect of the properties of the casting solvent. Permeation measurements are done with Ar, N-2, O-2, CH4, CO2, and H, gases. The selec...
Effect of soil bridge interaction on the distribution of live load effects among integral bridge components
Erhan, S.; Dicleli, Murat (2010-07-15)
In this study, the effect of soil-bridge interaction on the magnitude of the internal forces in integral bridge (IB) components due to live load effects is studied. For this purpose, structural models of typical IBs are built by including and excluding the effect of backfill and foundation soil. The analyses of the models are then conducted under AASHTO live load. In the analyses, the effects of the backfill and foundation soil on the magnitude of the internal forces in IB components are studied for various...
