The use of X-ray computerized tomography scanning with a new dual-scan technique to measure porosity that is suitable for nondestructive characterization of cores, which are the main sources of data for reservoir characterization, is investigated. Scanning experiments to measure the porosity of a Berea sandstone core as well as a full-size limestone core are performed to compare conventional techniques with the proposed method. It has been found that the proposed method is faster and more accurate. The method is also nondestructive in nature, unlike the conventional laboratory and accepted standard method for computerized tomography scanning.

A Novel System for Measuring Solids Dispersion In Circulating Fluidized Beds
Külah, Görkem; Bi, H T; Lim, C J; Grace, J R (null; 2008-05-08)
A novel, simple and accurate experimental measurement system with fast response was developed to measure transient local solid tracer concentration distributions to obtain information on solids mixing and dispersion in risers of circulating fluidized beds operating at a wide range of operating conditions. Phosphorescent-coated FCC particles, used as the tracer, were activated by high intensity UV light and injected at the return leg of high-density circulating fluidized bed (HDCFB) unit. The tracer concentr...
A LOCAL EXTREMA BASED METHOD ON 2D BRIGHTNESS TEMPERATURE MAPS FOR DETECTION OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL ARTIFACTS
SOYDAN, HİLAL; DÜZGÜN, HAFİZE ŞEBNEM; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2016-07-15)
Archaeological studies using computer vision based analysis methods on thermal imageries mainly lack an important stage of pointwise detection of artifact positions, which is needed for the automation of the system in a generic application. In this paper, we propose a pointwise detection method working in the thermal range of hyperspectral band for archaeological artifacts. The proposed method first optimally converts a given 3D hyperspectral image of the searched scene into a 2D brightness-temperature map ...
An approach to measure trace elements in particles collected on fiber filters using EDXRF
ÖZTÜRK, FATMA; Zararsız, Abdullah; Kırmaz, Rıdvan; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2011-01-15)
A method developed for analyzes of large number of aerosol samples using Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) and its performance were discussed in this manuscript. Atmospheric aerosol samples evaluated in this study were collected on cellulose fiber (Whatman-41) filters, employing a Hi-Vol sampler, at a monitoring station located on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. between 1993 and 2001. Approximately 1700 samples were collected in this period. Six-hundred of these samples were analyzed by instru...
A Micromechanics Based Numerical Investigation of Dual Phase Steels
Yalçınkaya, Tuncay; Çakmak, Serhat Onur (Elsevier BV; 2019-01-01)
The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of microstructural parameters such as the volume fraction, morphology and spatial distribution of the martensite phase and the grain size of the ferrite phase on the plasticity and localized deformation of dual-phase (DP) steels. For this purpose, Voronoi based representative volume elements (RVEs) are subjected to proportional loading with constant stress triaxility. Two alternative approaches are employed in a comparative way to model the plastic respons...
An indium tin oxide metasurface filter for terahertz applications: Design, fabrication, and characterization

In this paper, using a cross-shaped complementary Indium Tin Oxide (ITO)-based meta surface design, the transmission of THz radiation is shown to be filtered within the 3 dB level from maximum in the frequency range of interest 333 GHz). Various metasurface structures primarily composed of cross-shaped openings with a 400 micron unit cell size are patterned on top of 1750 micron thick fused silica substrates. They are patterned using UV lithography methods after the films were grown using DC sputtering. The...
