In this study, cylindrical array of stripline fed rounded bow-tie slot antennas is designed to be used for avionics applications. The array element is fed by a T shaped strip line. Shape of the slot is modified from rectangular to rounded bow-tie to provide sufficient bandwidth for telemetry application. Furthermore, vias are placed around slots to prevent unwanted parallel plate modes of stripline structure. It is observed that, location of vias is critical in the design of the antenna. Thus, parametric studies are performed in order to determine the locations of vias. Designed antenna is fabricated and measured to validate the simulation results. Measurement and simulation results agree well with each other.

Design, Simulation, Fabrication and Testing of Flexible Bow-Tie Antennas
Durgun, Ahmet Cemal; Birtcher, Craig R.; Allee, David R. (2011-12-01)
Design, simulation, fabrication and measurement of two different novel flexible bow-tie antennas, a conventional and a modified bow-tie antenna with reduced metallization, are reported in this paper. The antennas are mounted on a flexible substrate fabricated at the Flexible Display Center (FDC) of Arizona State University (ASU). The substrate is heat stabilized polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) which allows the antennas to be flexible. The antennas are fed by a microstrip-to-coplanar feed network balun. The r...
Design of a dual polarized low profile antenna for microwave brain imaging
Üçel, Kaan; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2022-5-9)
In this thesis, a low profile, low cost, wide band (0.9-2GHz) dual linearly polarized printed dipole antenna is designed to be used in microwave brain imaging systems. Dual polarization feature offers superior data acquisition through polarization diversity for better image quality. Starting from a simple printed dipole, antenna structure is modified step by step to meet these design requirements. Since a conductive surface in close vicinity of the antenna affects antenna performance, in order to obtain uni...
Design of asymmetric coplanar strip folded dipole antennas /
Karaciğer, Kamil; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
This thesis includes the design, simulation, production and measurement of an asymmetric coplanar strip folded dipole antenna suitable to be used as an element in a linear array operating at S-band (2.7 GHz - 3.3 GHz). In this same manner, its usefulness as an array antenna is also explored in this thesis. This antenna element consists of a microstrip line feed, microstrip to coplanar stripline transition (BALUN) and asymmetric coplanar strip (ACPS) folded dipole. The planar folded dipole can be constructed...
Design, simulation, and fabrication of low-cost inkjet antennas
Mutlu, Feza; Ergül, Özgür Salih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
In this study, low-cost inkjet-printed antennas are investigated from the design level to the end-pro duct level. As a substrate, commercial photograph paper is used. Antennas working in various frequency bands are designed using a sophisticated simulation environment based on the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Antennas are printed via standard, low cost, and commercial printers using conductive 25% alloyed silver ink. After printing, a temperature curing process is applied in order to increas...
Design of a novel low-loss frequency scanning antenna
Alkış, Sena; Ergül, Özgür Salih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
In antenna engineering, frequency scanning arrays are well-known with their ability to provide low-cost electronic scanning capability. However, in many studies on these arrays, the loss of the structure is overlooked. In this study, a novel low-loss frequency scanning antenna structure is proposed. The design is a composition of a feeding waveguide utilized for frequency scanning in one plane and an array of eight elements in the other plane, which is repeated along the frequency scanning axis. The loss of...
