In this paper, the transmission characteristics of a conformal frequency selective surface (FSS) radome which is designed to operate in Ku-band is compared to its planar counterpart. The radome is designed to have narrow band-pass characteristics with a performance that is independent of the polarization and the angle of incidence of the incoming wave. The optimum dimension of the radome is optimized through the simulations of the infinite planar structure. Then, the performance of the conformal structure is analyzed by simulating the same FSS over an infinite half cylinder.

Analysis and design of conformal frequency selective surfaces /
Dalkılıç, Akın; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
An efficient analysis and design approach for conformal frequency selective surface (FSS) structures is developed. The design methodology involves the analysis of both the planar and curved FSS structures. First, planar unit cell analysis of conformal FSS models are accomplished for normal and oblique incidence cases. To prove conformal applicability of planar designs, a semi-finite analysis method is utilized. This method is based on solution of a singly periodic curved FSS structure of semi-cylinder shape...
Calculation of the raman frequency, damping constant (Linewidth) and the relaxation time near the tetragonal-cubic transition in PbTiO3
KİRACI, ALİ; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2017-01-01)
Frequencies, damping constants and the relaxation times of some Raman modes including the two soft modes are calculated as a function of pressure near the tetragonal-cubic transition in PbTiO3. Calculation of the Raman frequencies is performed using the observed volume data from the literature by means of the mode Gruneisen parameter at various pressures. Pressure dependence of the damping constant and the relaxation time is predicted using the pseudospin-phonon coupled model and the energy fluctuation mode...
Analysis of thin walled open section tapered beams using hybrid stress finite element method
Akman, Mehmet Nazım; Oral, Süha; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2008)
In this thesis, hybrid stress finite element is formulated for the analysis of the isotropic, thin walled, open section beams with variable cross sections. The beam element has two nodes each having seven degrees of freedom. Assumption of stress field is sufficient to determine the element stiffness matrix. Axial, flexural and torsional effects are taken into account in the analysis. The methodology can be applied both to the tapered and the uniform beams. Throughout this study, firstly element cross-sectio...
Calculation of flutter and dynamic behavior of advanced composite swept wings with tapered cross section in unsteady incompressible flow
Farsadi, T.; Hasbestan, J. J. (Informa UK Limited, 2019-02-16)
In this study, the aeroelastic stability and response of a swept composite wing in subsonic incompressible flow are investigated. The wing is modeled as an anisotropic tapered thin-walled beam with the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness structural configuration to establish proper coupling between bending and torsion. The structural model considers a number of nonclassical effects, such as transverse shear, material anisotropy, warping inhibition, nonuniform torsion, rotary inertia and three-dimensional...
Investigation of multilevel inverters for d-statcom applications
Deniz, Mustafa; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
The most important advantages of Multilevel Inverters are the absence of a coupling transformer for medium voltage applications and low harmonic current content. In this way, relocatable and economical STATCOM systems can be realized. Complex control algorithms and the isolation problems of measurement devices and power supplies are the main challenging parts of this type of application. In this study, the design, realization, and the performance of a Voltage Source Type Cascaded Multilevel Converter Based ...
