This paper presents a comparison between two transmit diversity schemes, namely space-time coding and time-switched transmit diversity (TSTD) over block-fading and time-varying multi-input single-output (MISO) channels with various channel parameters. The schemes are concatenated with outer channel codes in order to achieve spatio-temporal diversity. The analytical results are derived for the error performances of the systems and simulation results as well as outage probabilities are provided. It is demonstrated using the analytical and simulation results that TSTD may have a comparable error performance with the space-time coding techniques and it even outperforms the space-time codes in some scenarios. Our results indicate that TSTD can be suggested as an alternative to space-time codes in some time-varying channels especially due to its implementation simplicity.

Total outage capacity of randomly-spread coded-CDMA with linear multiuser receivers over multipath fading channels
Ertug, O; Sayrac, B; Baykal, Buyurman; Yucel, MD (2003-07-03)
We address in this paper the derivation and analysis of the outage spectral efficiencies achievable with linear multiuser receivers over randomly-spread multipath fading time-varying coded-CDMA channels. The basis of the derivations is the use of non-asymptotic average eigenvalue densities of random cross-correlation matrices. The analysis give important clues on the achievable capacity with linear multiuser receivers under non-ergodic transmission situations.
Approximation of pattern transformation manifolds with parametric dictionaries
Vural, Elif (2011-07-12)
The construction of low-dimensional models explaining high-dimensional signal observations provides concise and efficient data representations. In this paper, we focus on pattern transformation manifold models generated by in-plane geometric transformations of 2D visual patterns. We propose a method for computing a manifold by building a representative pattern such that its transformation manifold accurately fits a set of given observations. We present a solution for the progressive construction of the repr...
Estimation of partially observed multiple graph signals by learning spectrally concentrated graph kernels
Turhan, Gülce; Vural, Elif; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2021-3-31)
Graph models provide flexible tools for the representation and analysis of signals defined over domains such as social or sensor networks. However, in real applications data observations are often not available over the whole graph, due to practical problems such as broken sensors, connection loss, or storage problems. In this thesis, we study the problem of estimating partially observed graph signals on multiple graphs. We consider possibly multiple graph domains over which a set of signals is available wi...
