An Interleaved LTSA Array on a Waveguide Beamformer with Dual-Plane Monopulse

A monopulse antenna array is designed by using a novel element combining wideband linearly tapered slot antennas (LTSA) with an interleaved, closely-spaced, travelling wave slotted waveguide array (TWSWA) similar to [1-3]. To decrease the deteriorating coupling between sum and difference rows in previous studies for monopulse operation, adjacent rows of interleaved arrays are designed to have the same amplitude distribution but different propagation constants. So, interleaved arrays generate two simultaneous sum beams with distinct but close squint angles. Dual array elements are represented by Sport networks. A 40-by-infinite array operating in 13% sidelobe bandwidth in C-band with 30-dB Taylor amplitude distribution is synthesized by the method proposed in [3]. The array is verified by full-wave simulations in HFSS.

A novel antenna element for low loss and low-profile dual-plane monopulse arrays is proposed. The travelling wave array has both sum and difference distributions in azimuth. By using parallel strip line fed printed dipole antennas as array elements, an omnidirectional antenna array and a wide angle sector coverage array operating in octave band are designed. Waveguide-based Monopulse Wideband Travelling-Wave Array

A novel, travelling-wave, waveguide antenna structure with monopulse capability in the two principal planes is proposed with increased frequency bandwidth. The array consists of two interleaved waveguide arrays which provide appropriate excitations to the antenna elements above the waveguide to generate proper sum and difference patterns. With the use of printed antennas and the elimination of the narrow frequency characteristics of the slots on the waveguides, the bandwidth of the array is greatly improved.

The properties of a four element slot antenna array mounted on a PDA for a MIMO system are investigated by means of a Finite Difference Time Domain analysis and a multipath channel model. The effects of changing the positions of the antenna elements on the PDA box and the effect of the box being held in a human hand are investigated.
