In this study, boron doped and undoped poly(vinyl) alcohol/zirconium-barium acetate (PVA/Zr-Ba) nanofibers were prepared using an electrospinning technique then calcinated at three different temperatures; 250 degrees C, 500 degrees C, 800 degrees C for 2 h. The originality of this study is the addition of boron to metal acetates. The fibers were characterized by FT-IR, DSC, XRD and SEM. The addition of boron did not only increase the thermal stability of the fibers, but also increased their diameters, which gave stronger fibers. The FT-IR spectra of the fibers were in good accordance with literature data. The DSC results indicate that the glass transition (Tg) and melting temperatures (Tm) showed a change with the addition of boron. Also, boron doped fibers were observed to degrade at higher temperatures. XRD analyses showed that after further heat treatment at 800 degrees C, zirconia exists in two phases of tetragonal and monoclinic modifications. The systematic evolution of morphological features in the spun and the processed fibers were studied by scanning electron microscopy. The SEM appearance of the fibers showed that the addition of boron resulted in the formation of cross linked bright surfaced fibers.

Preparation and Characterization of Neodymia Doped PVA/Zr-Ce Oxide Nanocrystalline Composites via Electrospinning Technique
Keskin, Selda; Uslu, Ibrahim; TUNÇ, TUNCAY; ÖZTÜRK, MUSTAFA; Aytimur, Arda (2011-01-01)
In this study, neodymia doped poly(vinyl) alcohol/zirconium-cerium acetate (PVA/Zr-Ce) nanofibers were prepared using the electrospinning technique, and then calcined at 800 degrees C for 2 hours. For this purpose, PVA/Zr-Ce polymer solutions doped with different concentrations of neodymia were prepared using electrospinning technique, and then calcined and sintered at 800 degrees C for 2 hours. The effect of neodymia doping was investigated in terms of solution properties, morphological changes and thermal...
Preparation of Gadolina Stabilized Bismuth Oxide Doped with Boron via Electrospinning Technique
TUNÇ, TUNCAY; Uslu, Ibrahim; Durmusoglu, Senol; Keskin, Selda; Aytimur, Arda; Akdemir, Ahmet (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2012-01-01)
In this study, boron doped and undoped poly (vinyl) alcohol/bismuth-gadolina acetate (PVA/Bi-Gd) nanofibers were prepared using electrospinning technique then calcinated at 800 degrees C for 2 h. The originality of this study is the addition of boron to metal acetates. The effects of boron doping were investigated in terms of solution properties, morphological changes and thermal characteristics. The characteristics of the fibers were investigated with FT-IR, XRD, SEM and BET. The addition of boron did not ...
Synthesis and Characterization of Boron Doped Alumina Stabilized Zirconia Fibers
Uslu, I.; TUNÇ, TUNCAY; Keskin, Serhat; Ozturk, M. K. (2011-06-01)
Boron doped PVA/Zr-Al acetate nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning using PVA as a precursor. The effect of calcination temperature on morphology and crystal structure was investigated at 250, 500, and 800 degrees C. The study also establishes the effect of boron doping on the morphology of PVA/Zr-Al acetate nanofibers at various calcination temperatures. The measurements showed that the conductivity, pH, viscosity and the surface tension of the hybrid polymer solutions have increased with boron dopin...
Preparation of BaxSr1-xTiO3 thin films by chemical solution deposition and their electrical characterization
Adem, Umut; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2003)
In this study, barium strontium titanate (BST) thin films with different compositions (Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3, Ba0.8Sr0.2TiO3, Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3, Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3) were produced by chemical solution deposition technique. BST solutions were prepared by dissolving barium acetate, strontium acetate and titanium isopropoxide in acetic acid and adding ethylene glycol as a chelating agent and stabilizer to this solution, at molar ratio of acetic acid/ethylene glycol, 3:1. The solution was then coated on Si and Pt//Ti/SiO2/Si ...
Synthesis and characterization of polythiophene/montmorillonite and polythiophene/polypropylene composites
Dülgerbaki, Çiğdem; Küçükyavuz, Zuhal; Department of Chemistry (2006)
In this study, polythiophene(PTP)/montmorillonite(MMT) nanocomposites were synthesized by in situ intercalative polymerization and chemical oxidative polymerization. In in situ intercalative polymerization method, composites containing 90 and 95% MMT were prepared. In chemical oxidative polymerization method, a series of composites ranging from 1 to 15% by weight MMT were synthesized. Thermal and morphological properties of samples were investigated by Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Thermal Gravim...
