In this study, neodymia doped poly(vinyl) alcohol/zirconium-cerium acetate (PVA/Zr-Ce) nanofibers were prepared using the electrospinning technique, and then calcined at 800 degrees C for 2 hours. For this purpose, PVA/Zr-Ce polymer solutions doped with different concentrations of neodymia were prepared using electrospinning technique, and then calcined and sintered at 800 degrees C for 2 hours. The effect of neodymia doping was investigated in terms of solution properties, morphological changes and thermal characteristics. The fibers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The measurements showed that the conductivity, pH, viscosity, and surface tension of the hybrid polymer solutions have decreased with increasing Nd acetate content. The FT-IR spectra of the fibers were in good accordance with the literature. The average crystal size values for calcined and sintered samples which were obtained from precursor solutions were calculated. XRD analysis showed that the crystallite size was decreased with increasing Nd content. This result is verified by the calculation of the total areas of the peaks appeared in the XRD spectra. The very sharp and high intense peaks found in the diffraction patterns revealed the crystalline nature of the product. Moreover, the SEM micrograph of the fibers showed that the average fiber diameters decreased with increasing Nd content.

Fabrication and characterization of boron doped BaZrO3 nanofibers via an electrospinning technique
TUNÇ, TUNCAY; Uslu, I.; Keskin, Serhat (2011-10-01)
In this study, boron doped and undoped poly(vinyl) alcohol/zirconium-barium acetate (PVA/Zr-Ba) nanofibers were prepared using an electrospinning technique then calcinated at three different temperatures; 250 degrees C, 500 degrees C, 800 degrees C for 2 h. The originality of this study is the addition of boron to metal acetates. The fibers were characterized by FT-IR, DSC, XRD and SEM. The addition of boron did not only increase the thermal stability of the fibers, but also increased their diameters, which...

In this study, boron doped and undoped poly (vinyl) alcohol/bismuth-gadolina acetate (PVA/Bi-Gd) nanofibers were prepared using electrospinning technique then calcinated at 800 degrees C for 2 h. The originality of this study is the addition of boron to metal acetates. The effects of boron doping were investigated in terms of solution properties, morphological changes and thermal characteristics. The characteristics of the fibers were investigated with FT-IR, XRD, SEM and BET. The addition of boron did not ...
Preparation and characterization of polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) coordinated to metal or metal ion nanoparticles
Öztürk, Yurdagül; Kaleli, Kadir; UYAR, Tamer; Kayran İşçi, Ceyhan; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2014-03-01)
In this study, Co, Cr or Au3+ functional polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine), PS-b-P2VP complexes were prepared and characterized. Coordination of metal atom or ion to nitrogen atom of pyridine rings was confirmed by FTIR analyses. The strength and efficiency of coordination of P2VP blocks to Co, Cr or Au3+ mainly depends on charge and stability of the complex formed that is mainly related to the energy of d orbitals. The results reveal that the thermal stability of the polymer composite formed increases...
Investigation of turbulence models used in automotive industry
Taştan, Umur; Çetinkaya, Tahsin Ali; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
In this study; reliability and performance of turbulence models used in CFD softwares to determine the aerodynamics of passenger cars, are tested and compared. In the analyses, drag forces acting on the car, pressure and velocity distributions and wake flow patterns are determined by using several turbulence models with a commercial software Fluent. Calculated results compared to the experimental results given in the literature. It is observed that, turbulence models give relatively reliable results for det...
Microwave initiated polymerization of trihalophenyleneoxide and aniline
Levent, Fulya; Kısakürek, Duygu; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2011)
The aim of the study is to synthesize poly(dibromophenyleneoxide) and polyaniline separately applying different microwave energies (90-900 watt), water amounts (1-5 ml) and time intervals (2-10 min) and investigate the effects of these parameters on the percent conversion of the polymers. The synthesis of poly(dibromophenyleneoxide) (P), radical ion polymer (RIP) and crosslinked polymer (CLP) were achieved by using tribromophenol (TBP) and Ca(OH)2 via microwave energy in a very short time interval. P and RI...
