A novel knowledge-aided processing scheme is proposed for use in Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) operation to be operated in real time on airborne SAR/GMTI sensors. The proposed approach is based on the Sigma-Delta Post-Doppler Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) algorithm and makes use of a priori knowledge sources as well as instantaneous sensor data in order to improve detection performance in non homogeneous interference environments. The algorithm is tested with actual radar data obtained during flight trials and the results of both the traditional and the knowledge aided methods are presented and compared.

Experimental Evaluation of Panel-Method-Based Path Planning for eVTOL in A Scaled Urban Environment
Ünal, Zeynep; Bronz, Murat; Yavrucuk, İlkay (2022-01-01)
In this study, previously proposed panel method based path planning for electric vertical take off and landing vehicles in urban environments is tested in a high fidelity simulation environment and with real-life drones in an indoor flight arena. Panel method is a numerical tool, borrowed form fluid dynamics domain, that can generate collision free paths for multiple vehicles in environments with arbitrarily shaped obstacles while guaranteeing obstacle avoidance and convergence to global minima with little ...
Nonlinear Guidance of Aircraft Formations
Tekinalp, Ozan (null; 2015-01-05)
Nonlinear formation flight control algorithm for a pair of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is proposed. The leader-follower approach to formation flight is adopted. The leader maintains a prescribed trajectory while the follower is controlled to track and maintain a fixed relative distance from its leader. Two nonlinear guidance algorithms, Lyapunov and State Dependent Ricatti Equation, (SDRE) based are proposed for the relative guidance of the follower UAV. The resulting formation control systems are tested...
Experimental investigation of morphing wing aerodynamics by force measurements and particle image velocimetry
Özçakmak, Özge Sinem; Özgen, Serkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
Recently, new developments in on manufacturing technologies, aircraft materials, sensors, actuators, and other mechanisms raised the interest in morphing wings. Instead of conventional wings, which are optimized only for one flight condition, morphing wings can adapt themselves for different missions, mission segments and associated flight conditions. The focus of this thesis is the experimental analysis of a morphing wing, the planform and airfoil shapes that were made available from a separate numerical s...
Online path planning for unmanned aerial vehicles to maximize instantaneous information
Ergezer, Halit; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2021-01-01)
In this article, an online path planning algorithm for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been proposed. The aim is to gather information from target areas (desired regions) while avoiding forbidden regions in a fixed time window starting from the present time. Vehicles should not violate forbidden zones during a mission. Additionally, the significance and reliability of the information collected about a target are assumed to decrease with time. The proposed solution finds each vehicle’s path by s...
Characterization of a terahertz wave scanned imaging system for threat detection at standoff distances
YILDIRIM, İBRAHİM SONER; ÖZKAN, VEDAT ALİ; Idikut, Firat; Takan, Taylan; ŞAHİN, ASAF BEHZAT; Altan, Hakan (2016-07-01)
A terahertz active scanned imaging system is developed in order to acquire images of various targets at stand-off distances. The images are analyzed with respect to the experimentally obtained beam profile at the target plane using a commercially available mm-wave/terahertz camera. The active scanning system utilizes a heterodyne, continuous wave transceiver unit operating at 340 GHz and 2-D opto-mechanical scanning of the target plane is performed using two large area mirror coupled galvanometers. 340 GHz ...
