Water quality properties and trophic status of Keban Dam Reservoir have been assessed in detail. The dissolved oxygen contours exhibited somewhat unusual behaviour of temporarily established intermediate layers of low dissolved oxygen concentrations. The phytoplankton species were identified and their composition was evaluated. The reservoir is eutrophic in general terms. However, lotic and limnetic zones of the reservoir have shown different trophic status.

Investigation of light attenuation in Lake Eymir
Atiker, Selen; Aksoy, Ayşegül; Sanin, Selim; Department of Environmental Engineering (2012)
Light penetration and attenuation has significant impact on the water quality of lakes. Algal activity, which is important for the levels of several water quality parameters, is dependent on light penetration besides availability of nutrients. In this study, change in light penetration and attenuation in Lake Eymir was studied. The relationships of extinction coefficient (ke), and water quality parameters were investigated. The effect of ke on Chl-a over nutrients were investigated. The water quality parame...
Evaluation of eutrophication control strategies for the Keban Dam reservoir
Soyupak, S; Mukhallalati, L; Yemisen, D; Bayar, A; Yurteri, C (1997-04-15)
The reservoir of the Keban Dam in eastern Anatolia is a very deep and large water body subject to significant seasonal water level fluctuations within a given hydrological year. At the present time, different sections of the reservoir have different trophic status and the upper portion of the reservoir, in particular, is eutrophic. In this regard, there is a need for the assessment of alternative strategies to be implemented for phosphorus and thus eutrophication control in this segment of the reservoir. In...
Determination of environmental quality standard -based discharge limits and mixing zones for tersakan sub-basin of Yeşilirmak river
Çelebi, Sarp; Ünlü, Kahraman; Department of Environmental Engineering (2019)
The control of point source discharges to rivers has become more elaborate since the establishment of environmental quality standards (EQSs). Many countries including Turkey have set EQS values for various contaminants of concern (CoCs) i.e. maximum concentration limits that would not cause detrimental effects on the health of the human-beings or the overall environment. One important challenge of achieving these EQSs is to reconcile the effluent limits that are technically and economically achievable with ...
Development of water quality management strategies for the proposed Isikli reservoir
Gunduz, O; Soyupak, S; Yurteri, C (1998-01-01)
A two-dimensional laterally averaged hydrodynamic and water quality model (CE-QUAL-WS) is used to simulate the water quality behavior in the proposed Isikli Reservoir of the Ankara Water Supply System to determine appropriate strategies for the management of water quality.
Comparison of phosphorus reduction alternatives in control of nutrient concentrations in Lake Uluabat (Bursa, Turkey): Partial versus full sediment dredging
YENİLMEZ, Firdes; Aksoy, Ayşegül (2013-01-01)
In this study, Water Quality Analysis Simulation Program (WASP) was used to simulate the impacts of various phosphorus (P) load reduction scenarios on nutrient concentrations in Lake Uluabat, a Ramsar site (a wetland of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention), including sediment dredging options and source reduction. The model was calibrated for various water constituents including ortho-phosphate (PO43-) and nitrate (NO3-). The calibrated model was used as a management tool to pred...
