Narrowband filters that are utilized in the IF stages are almost the most effective components when the performance parameters such as the Intermodulation Spurs (IMS) and noise floor of the entire strip are considered. Thus, selectivity of the IF filters should be as high as possible. Required sharpness and ultimate rejection often dictate high Q-structures like cavity or waveguide structures, but these type of filters fail to comply with physical parameters such as space and weight that planar filters do. On the contrary, other problems arise in this type of filters. The most severe ones are dispersion and bandwidth enlargement. In this paper, a technique to control the bandwidth of the planar filter while keeping loss and the length same is told.

On Miniaturization and Performance Improvement of Planar Wideband Bandpass Filters Without Coupled Lines
Alicioglu, Bulent; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2009-10-01)
Two classical approaches are compared in various respects for the design of wideband planar BPF's without parallel coupled lines, namely, BPF's designed by pole placement with contributing Unit Elements (UE) and inverter coupled resonator filters designed from LP prototypes. It is shown that the circuit obtained by direct BP synthesis is a special case of inverter coupled filter with inverters converted into single Unit Elements. It is also shown that if the inverters are converted into odd number of UE's t...
Design of Selective Linear Phase Cross-Coupled Dielectric Resonator Filters
Ozturk, Onur Ozan; Oruc, Sacid; Alicioglu, Bulent; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2018-11-02)
In this paper, a highly selective linear phase filter is designed and implemented in cross-coupled form using dielectric resonators in Ku band to be used as a channel filter in IMUX of a satellite receiver. Extreme delay flatness is required: 1.5 nS delay ripple over 60 % of the passband and 12 nS near the band edges. The initial design is carried out as 10 resonator symmetric cross-coupled filter with all ideal inverter couplings realizing two finite transmission zeros (FTZ) satisfying also the delay flatn...
A new technique for shortening the EMI filter development stage
Colak, B; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent (2003-05-16)
The authors have developed a unity power factor sinusoidal current input induction cooker having an input side filter for conducted EMI noise. This paper proposes that the conducted EMI for the type of power electronics equipment considered here can be easily identified by making EMI current measurements on the system by eliminating the earth wire. A filter design based on this assumption is made and its results are compared with a filter designed using conventional noise separation technique. It is found t...
Design, Implementation and Operation of a New C-type 2nd Harmonic Filter for Electric Arc and Ladle Furnaces
Gercek, Cem Ozgur; Ermiş, Muammer; Ertas, Arif; Kose, Kemal Nadir; Unsar, Ozgur (2010-10-07)
In this research work, the transient overvoltage suppression capability and harmonic filtering performance of C-type 2nd harmonic filters are optimized by using two-stage damping resistors; one is permanently connected to the filter circuit, while the other one is switched on by back-to-back connected thyristors during furnace transformer and Harmonic Filter (HF) energization periods. However in conventional C-type 2nd HFs there is only one damping resistor, which is permanently connected to the filter circ...
Investigation on Series Active Filter Compensated High Power Grid-Connected Voltage Source Inverters with LCL Filter
Usluer, S. Nadir; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2014-09-18)
This paper deals with Series Active Filter (SAF) based damping methods for the LCL filters of three-phase, grid connected, low voltage, high power Voltage Source Inverters (VSIs). The inherent resonance problem of LCL filters is damped via passive or active damping methods. Passive damping methods employing damping resistors create significant power losses reducing the overall system's efficiency for high power inverters. Active damping methods, on the other hand, are not applicable due to inverter's limite...
