A preliminary study on the use of reservoir simulation and coal mine ventilation methane measurements in determining coal reservoir properties
Erdoğan, Sinem Setenay; Okandan, Ender; Kracan, Cevat Özgen; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2011)
This thesis investigates methane emissions and methane production potentials from abandoned longwall panels produced or emitted due to mining activities either from coal seam or any underlying or overlying formations. These emissions can increase greenhouse gas concentrations and also pose a danger to the underground working environment and to miners. In addition to the safety issues, recovery and utilization of this gas is an additional source of energy. In this study, methane concentrations measured from ...
Effect of Heating Rate on Thermal Properties and Kinetics of Raw and Cleaned Coal Samples Energy Sources

Thermal characterization and gasification kinetics of thrace-saray region coal
Yıldırım, Betül; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2015)
In this thesis being up as-received and washed and dried, two different coal samples from Saray-Edirkoy field were experimented in order to determine effects of different variables as coal type, heating rate, gas flow rate, isothermal duration, gasifying medium, and final gasification temperature, on isothermal gasification profiles of the coal samples. In the scope of this study, heating rate was changed in the range of 20-50oC/min as 20, 30, 40 and 50oC/min whereas two different gas flow rate values as 60...
Effect of particle size on coal pyrolysis
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Karacan, Ozgen; Hicyilmaz, Cahit (1998-01-01)
This research comprises the effect of particle size on coal pyrolysis by thermogravimetry (TG/DTG). All the experiments were conducted at non-isothermal heating conditions with a heating rate of 10 degrees C min(-1). in the temperature range of 20-600 degrees C, under nitrogen atmosphere. Different fractions of Cayirhan coal coal showed differences in TG/DTG curves, peak temperatures and residue values. The Arrhenius model is applied to determine the kinetic parameters from TG/DTG curves.
Combustion characteristics of coal briquettes. 1. Thermal features
Altun, Naci Emre; Bagci, AS (2003-09-01)
In this study, the influence of some of the most important briquetting parameters on the combustion and thermal properties of coal briquettes were studied in detail. For this purpose, briquettes with various organic (molasses, sulfide liquor, carboxyl methyl cellulose, Peridur XC3, and Peridur C10) and inorganic agents (cement and bentonite) were prepared, to be combusted in a reaction cell that was complemented with a continuous gas analyzer unit. Furthermore, using the binding agent that provided the most...
