This research comprises the effect of particle size on coal pyrolysis by thermogravimetry (TG/DTG). All the experiments were conducted at non-isothermal heating conditions with a heating rate of 10 degrees C min(-1). in the temperature range of 20-600 degrees C, under nitrogen atmosphere. Different fractions of Cayirhan coal coal showed differences in TG/DTG curves, peak temperatures and residue values. The Arrhenius model is applied to determine the kinetic parameters from TG/DTG curves.

Effect of particle size on the thermal and combustion properties of coal
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Hiçyilmaz, C.; Karacan, Ö. (1997-10-22)
In this research effect of particle size on the combustion properties of Cayirhan coal sample was studied. Non-isothermal thermogravimetry and derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) experiment were carried out for twelve different size fractions of the Cayirhan coal sample. Thermogravimetry experiments were performed from ambient to 900 degrees C in air atmosphere. Differential thermogravimetric data were analysed using an Arrhenius type reaction model assuming a first-order reaction. Kinetic parameters of th...
Effect of particle size and heating rate on the pyrolysis of Silopi asphaltite
Altun, Naci Emre; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Elsevier BV, 2003-5)
This study comprises the effect of particle size and heating rate on the pyrolysis of Silopi, Turkey asphaltite by non-isothermal thermogravimetry. The TG/DTG experiments were performed at five different heating rates with three different size fractions from ambient up to 900 degreesC in nitrogen atmosphere. The pyrolysis characteristics of the samples were analyzed using TG/DTG curves. Also, the pyrolysis kinetics of the samples were determined using the Arrhenius type kinetic model and ASTM methods. Resul...
Coal pyrolysis: Thermogravimetric study and kinetic analysis
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2003-10-01)
This research comprises the coal pyrolysis by thermogravimetry (TG/DTG). During the pyrolysis of the coal samples studied, gradual and continuous weight loss over the entire temperature range was observed. The weight loss below 210degreesC is related to the removal of moisture. The subsequent pyrolysis process as revealed by the corresponding DTG peak that is related to primary devolatilization, during which carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen compounds are released. Arrhenius-type kinetic model was used to determ...

Effect of clay on crude oil combustion by thermal analysis techniques
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2006-05-01)
This research was aimed to investigate the role of clay on the combustion and kinetic behavior of crude oils in limestone matrix. For this purpose, simultaneous TG (thermogravimetry) and DTA (differential thermal analysis) experiments were performed at three different heating rates as 10-15 and 20 degrees C min(-1), respectively. A uniform trend of decreasing activation energies was observed with the addition of clay. It was concluded that clays surface area affects the values of Arrhenius constant, while i...
