Mechanical behavior of low alloy steels with bainitic and bainitic-martensitic structure
Tezgör, Başak; Ögel, Bilgehan; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2019)
This study aims to investigate the mechanical behavior of bainitic structures and bainitic-martensitic mixed structures in low alloyed steels. In this study, 51CrV4 and 60SiMn5 steels were used with different heat treatment cycles to get bainitic and bainitic-martensitic mixed structures. The specimens were austenitized at 880°C for 51CrV4 and at 950°C for 60SiMn5. It is followed by quenching in salt bath and isothermal holding at various temperatures above and below Ms temperature. Hardness, tensile and ch...
Mechanical properties of unsaturated polyester/montmorillonite composites
Inceoglu, AB; Yılmazer, Ülkü (2001-11-29)
Nanocomposites composed of unsaturated polyester matrix and organically modified clay filler were prepared. After the synthesis, XRD patterns showed that the interlayer spacing expanded from 1.25 nm to 4.5 nm. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were determined and it was found that adding only 3 w/w % organically modified clay improved the flexural modulus of unsaturated polyester by 35%. From DSC diagrams, it was found that T-g values of the nanocomposites also increased with the clay content....

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF REPAIRED CARBON FIBER REINFORCED POLYMER COMPOSITES
Sonat, Emine Evren; Özerinç, Sezer; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2021-12-10)
Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites are increasingly used in the aerospace industry due to their high specific strength compared to conventional metallic materials. However, a significant shortcoming of these composites is their increased susceptibility to damage. Structural repair is a common method to restore the load-carrying capacity of a damaged part when the damage size exceeds the pre-defined tolerances. Scarf and stepped bonded repair methods are the primary choice for cases that requi...
