The size-discrete breakage rate and distribution parameters of the grinding kinetic model are mostly determined in laboratory batch mills using single-size feeds. However, there is evidence in the literature that particle size distribution in the mill affects the breakage parameters. Previous work studying this effect was mostly conducted with feeds whose size distributions were not closely representative of those normally dealt with in industrial mills. This study was undertaken with the main purpose of investigating the effect of particle size distribution on the breakage parameters of quartz and calcite minerals in dry ball milling using steady-state feeds obtained from Bond's locked-cycle tests. Different closing screen sizes were used in the locked-cycle work to produce different feed size distributions that would resemble feeds to industrial closed-circuit ball mills. Experimental results have shown that the breakage rate parameter of the top size interval increases as the feed size distribution in the mill becomes finer. There is some evidence implying grinding-environment dependency of the non-normalizable breakage distribution parameters. The cumulative-basis one-parameter linear population balance model gives a simple and reliable representation of the kinetics of closed-circuit dry ball milling.

Comparison of Fenitrothion and Trifluralin Adsorption on Organo-Zeolites and Activated Carbon. Part II: Thermodynamic Parameters and the Suitability of the Kinetic Models of Pesticide Adsorption
LÜLE ŞENÖZ, Güzide Meltem; Atalay, Mustafa Ümit (Informa UK Limited, 2014-07-04)
The suitability of two kinetic models and the thermodynamic parameters of pesticide adsorption were investigated based on obtained data of previous studies. Kinetic evaluation indicated that the pesticides adsorption on adsorbents followed the pseudo-second-order model. Gibbs free energy (Delta G degrees), enthalpy (Delta H degrees), and entropy (Delta S degrees) were calculated for thermodynamic parameters by using linearized Arrhenius equation. The results indicated that the sorption process of fenitrothi...
Synthesis and Characterization of Aluminum Containing Silica Aerogel Catalysts for Degradation of PLA
Sivri, Seda; Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ; Sezgi, Naime Aslı (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2019-05-01)
Aluminum loaded silica aerogel based catalysts were synthesized by impregnation of aluminum into silica aerogel produced using sol-gel method in different aluminum loadings (2.5-15 wt%) to investigate their performances in degradation of polylactic acid (PLA).
Purification and modification of bentonite and its use in polypropylene and linear low density polyethylene matrix nanocomposites
Seyidoğlu, Tijen; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2010)
The potential use of Reşadiye/Tokat bentonite as a reinforcement in polypropylene (PP) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) polymer matrix nanocomposites filler was investigated. At first, organoclays (OC) were prepared by cation exchange reaction (CER) between the raw bentonite (RB) and three quaternary ammonium salts with long alkyl tails (QA): hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide [HMA] [Br], tetrabutyl ammonium tetrafluoroborate [TBA] [BF4], tetrakisdecyl ammonium bromide [TKA] [Br] and one quater...
Predicting drying behavior of spaghetti in a continuous industrial dryer with the models determined in a lab scale batch system
Kucuk, R; Ozilgen, M (Wiley, 1997-08-01)
In the first stage of this study experimental data were obtained by using a lab scale batch type dryer, operating under various constant temperature/constant relative humidity combinations; then a mathematical model was determined for the effective diffusivity of moisture in spaghetti. In the second stage of the study the model obtained in the lab scale batch type dryer was used to calculate the moisture content of the spaghetti leaving continuous industrial scale dryer, and its success was tested by compar...
MOTION OF A CIRCULATING POWER-LAW DROP TRANSLATING THROUGH NEWTONIAN FLUIDS AT INTERMEDIATE REYNOLDS NUMBERS
Gürkan, Türker (Informa UK Limited, 1989-6)
The equations of motion for the flow of a power-law fluid sphere in a Newtonian continuous phase have been approximately satisfied by Galerkin's method: External and internal stream functions have been obtained for the following ranges of variables: 10-50 for Re0, 0.1-1000 for the viscosity ratio parameters, X, and 0.6-1.0 for the dispersed phase power-law index, ni,. It is predicted that pseudoplasticity in the dispersed phase causes a reduction in the circulation within the drop and that it has a minor ef...
