In this paper, an FPGA implementation in which packet synchronization is performed by transmitting pilot sequences will be explained. In addition, in order to recover the frequency offset between the frequencies of oscillators at the transmitter and the receiver, a PLL like structure is proposed.

Analysis of the performance of network coding using the sampling property of Q-function Ǎg Kodlama için q-fonksiyonun örnek alma özellǐginden yararlanarak başarim analizi
Aktaş, Tǔgcan; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Aktaş, Emre (2013-08-05)
In the area of cooperative and network coded communication that naturally arises from cooperation, which become increasingly important in wireless communications, the expected end-to-end bit error rate (BER) values are frequently required to compare the proposed coding, relaying, and decoding techniques. Instead of obtaining these values through time consuming Monte Carlo simulations, deriving the closed form expressions via approximations is also crucial. In this work, we make use of the sampling property ...
The Development and hardware implementation of a dynamically reconfigurable and area optimized cyclic redundancy check architecture
Yurt, Özcan; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
The Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) calculation for data communication protocols is implemented by hardware calculators in several systems due to increasing throughput requirements of data communication protocols. Furthermore CRC is employed in many small scale embedded systems with different types of data communication interfaces that are implemented on FPGA. Resource utilization of these systems is frequently a critical parameter with regards to cost. In many cases, limited logic units of an FPGA have to be...

Aktaş, Tuǧcan; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; AKTAŞ, EMRE (2012-07-09)
This work presents approximation methods that are used to identify Bit Error Rate (BER) expressions which are frequently utilized in investigation and comparison of performance for wireless communication systems in the literature. In this group of approximation methods, some expectation integrals, which are complicated to analyze and time-consuming to evaluate through Monte Carlo simulations, are handled. For this group of integrals, by using the sampling property of the Q-function under mid- and high- Sign...
On the Carrier Frequency Offset Estimation for Frequency Hopping Burst Mode Mobile Radio
Güvensen, Gökhan Muzaffer; Tanık, Yalçın; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (2010-11-03)
In this paper, we evaluate the Cramer-Rao bounds (CRB) for the estimation of the carrier frequency offset (CFO) for general QAM modulations with no knowledge of the transmitted sequence (blind operation) in frequency hopping (FH) based short burst mode mobile radios. We investigate the blind CFO estimation problem in FH based mobile system that uses multiple short narrowband bursts in different frequency channels for the transmission of one packet. Joint blind channel and CFO estimation over multiple freque...
Robust signal compression using joint fixed- and variable-length coding
Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2000-01-01)
A transmitted signal is decomposed into two parts which are then encoded using fixed- and variable-length coding, respectively. Compared to conventional variable-length codewords with synchronisation-symbols or fixed-length coding strategies, the proposed method enjoys a better distortion-rate performance on particular channels.
