Türkçe, İnglizce, ve Hırvatçada yüksek olumsuzluk

The proposed study is a theoretical comparative study on the syntax and semantics of negation in Turkish, English, and Croatian, with the focus on the high negation constructions. The languages chosen for the investigation are on the one hand, typologically diverse with respect to the constructions containing high negation, thus providing the researcher with a fruitful empirical research base for drawing cross-linguistic inferences and on the other, they are languages whose speakers the researcher can consult in order to collect the necessary linguistic data. In this study, constructions that contain both a high negation and another scope-bearing element (disjunction, question particle) will be examined in three languages: Turkish, English and Croatian.

The analysis of contrastive discourse connectives in Turkish
Zeydan, Sultan; Zeyrek Bozşahin, Deniz; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2008)
This thesis is a descriptive study of four contrastive discourse connectives in Turkish. The main aim of this study is to analyze the connectives with respect to their meaning and predicate-argument structure and lay out the similarities and differences among contrastive discourse connectives with the help of quantitative analysis. Although the study is limited with contrastive connectives, it will have implications on how to resolve discourse structure in general and illustrate how lexico-syntactic element...
Cross-lingual information retrieval on Turkish and English texts
Boynueğri, Akif; Birtürk, Ayşe Nur; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, cross-lingual information retrieval (CLIR) approaches are comparatively evaluated for Turkish and English texts. As a complementary study, knowledge-based methods for word sense disambiguation (WSD), which is one of the most important parts of the CLIR studies, are compared for Turkish words. Query translation and sense indexing based CLIR approaches are used in this study. In query translation approach, we use automatic and manual word sense disambiguation methods and Google translation ser...
Gradient characteristics of the unaccusative/unergative distinction in Turkish : an experimental investigation
Acartürk, Cengiz; Zeyrek Bozşahin, Deniz; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2005)
This thesis investigates the gradient behaviour of monadic intransitive verb classes in Turkish, under an aspectual classification of the unaccusative/unergative verb types, namely The Split Intransitivity Hierarchy. This Hierarchy claims that intransitive verb types are subject to gradient acceptability in certain syntactic constructions. The methods used in judgment elicitation studies in psychophysics, such as the magnitude estimation technique have recently been adapted to be used in capturing gradient ...
The Processing of ambiguous morphemes in Turkish
Ataman, Esra.; Kırkıcı, Bilal; Department of English Literature (2019)
Studies investigating the processing of linguistic ambiguity have to date mostly focused on lexical ambiguity. Morphemic ambiguity, on the other hand, has been less frequently studied in spite of its cross-linguistic prevalence. An intermediate level of representation (i.e. the lemma level) between form and meaning has been claimed to successfully account for the processing of ambiguous morphemes in English and Chinese. Moreover, meaning frequency has been found to affect the processing of these morphemes. ...
