Photofermentative hydrogen production is greatly influenced by the microorganism, the type of photobioreactor (PBR) and physiological conditions such as temperature, pH and light intensity, under which the system is operated. In the design of the PBR system, it is imperative to initally determine the critical physiological parameters like light intensity and temperature, which affect the photofermentative hydrogen production. Developing predictive models that pinpoint and incorporate the relationships between these critical variables and hydrogen production is crucial. Such models can be developed using factorial designs and response surface methodology (RSM). These statistical tools enable the selection of the variables and optimization of the key factors to attain a maximum response. In this study, a general factorial design will be applied to determine the effects of light intensity and temperature on hydrogen yield.

Determination of trapping center parameters in Tl2In2S3Se layered single crystals by thermally stimulated current measurements
Güler, Işıkhan; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2009-07-01)
As-grown Tl2In2S3Se layered single crystals were studied by thermally stimulated current measurements in the temperature range of 10-170K with different heating rates. Experimental data were analyzed according to various methods such as curve fitting and initial rise. The analysis of thermally stimulated current spectra registered at light excitation temperature T-0 = 10K revealed the trap level located at 30 meV. Attempt-to-escape frequency, concentration and capture cross section of the traps were determi...
Design and implementation of a current source converter based active power filter for medium voltage applications
Terciyanlı, Alper; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
This research work is devoted to the design, development and implementation of a Current Source Converter (CSC) based Active Power Filter (APF) for Medium Voltage (MV) applications. A new approach has been proposed to the design of the CSC based APF for reducing the converter kVA rating considerably. This design approach is called the Selective Harmonic Amplification Method (SHAM), and is based on the amplification of some selected harmoniccurrent components of the CSC by the input filter, and the CSC contr...
Characterization of c-axis oriented Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films prepared by PVD on LaAlO3 (100) and SrTiO3 (100) substrates
Ozenbas, MA; Gungoren, T (Elsevier BV, 2000-11-01)
In this study, high T-c superconducting thin films of Y-Ba-Cu-O system have been prepared onto single crystals of LaAlO3 (100) and SrTiO3 (100) by resistive evaporation of YF3, BaF2 and Cu powders and a subsequent multi-stage annealing. In the deposition process, two different methods were used: mixed-powder method and sequential-deposition method. The best quality films were achieved on LaAlO3 substrates by using sequential-deposition technique with offset critical transition temperature of 88.1 K. Charact...
Multi-transducer ultrasonic communication
Ersagun, Erdem; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
RF and acoustic communications are widely used in terrestrial and underwater environments, respectively. This thesis examines the use of ultrasonic communication alternately in terrestrial applications. We first investigate the ultrasonic channel in order to observe whether reliable communication is possible among the ultrasonic nodes as an alternative to RF-based communications. Some key characteristics of the single-input-single-output (SISO) and single-inputmultiple- output (SIMO) ultrasonic channel are ...
Filter design software by synthesis method
Yayla, İhsan; Yıldırım, Nevzat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
In this study, Window-based computer program, named Synthesis Software, is developed for designing filters with equal-ripple or maximally flat passbands and general stopbands by using cascade synthesis technique in transformed frequency domain. Synthesis technique is applicable to lumped element and commensurate line distributed element filters with Lowpass, Highpass or Bandpass characteristics. Singly or Doubly terminated filters can be synthesized. friendly environment for typing in the parameters of the ...
