A series of fully aromatic copolyesters based on p-acetoxybenzoic acid (p-ABA), hydroquinone diacetate (HQDA), terephthalic acid (TPA), and m-acetoxybenzoic acid (m-ABA) were prepared by a modified melt-polycondensation reaction. The copolyesters were prepared in two series in which series I is based on a two monomer system (p-ABA/m-ABA) and series II is based on a three monomer system (HQDA/TPA/m-ABA). The effect of different linear structures and kink moiety on the properties of the copolyesters were investigated systematically. The copolyesters were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, H-1-NMR, polarized optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. It was found that the copolyesters exhibited nematic liquid-crystalline phases when the content of linear (p-ABA or HQDA/TPA) units was over 67 mol %. The melting or flow-transition temperatures were decreased with an increase of the content of kink m-ABA units. The copolyesters that contained p-ABA as linear units had a significantly higher degree of crystallinity compared to the copolyesters that contain HQDA/TPA as the linear units, implying a higher blockiness in the polymer chains as a result of the higher reactivity of the p-ABA units in the p-ABA/m-ABA system. All the copolyesters had poor solubility except the copolyesters containing at least 40 mol % of m-ABA, which were soluble in a dichloromethane/trifloroacetic acid (70:30 v/v) mixture. Synthesis and characterization of fully aromatic thermotropic liquid-crystalline copolyesters containing m-hydroxybenzoic acid units
Yerlikaya, Z; Aksoy, S; Bayramlı, Erdal (Wiley, 2001-10-01)
A series of fully aromatic copolyesters based on p-acetoxybenzoic acid (p-ABA), hydroquinone diacetate (HQDA), terephthalic acid (TPA), and m-acetoxybenzoic acid (m-ABA) were prepared by a modified melt-polycondensation reaction. The copolyesters were characterized by DSC, thermogravimetric analysis, H-1 NMR, polarized optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. The copolyesters exhibited nematic liquid-crystalline phases in a broad temperature range of about 150 degreesC, w...
Synthesis and properties of thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyesters containing p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid and m-hydroxybenzoic acid units
Yerlikaya, Z; Aksoy, S; Bayramlı, Erdal (Informa UK Limited, 2006-03-01)
A series of copolyesters based on p-acetoxybenzoic acid (p-ABA), m-acetoxybenzoic acid (m-ABA), and p-acetoxyphenylacetic acid (p-APAA) were prepared by a modified melt polycondensation reaction. The effect of linear p-ABA structure, kink m-ABA and flexible p-APAA moiety on the properties of copolyesters were systematically investigated. The copolyesters were characterized by DSC, thermogravimetric analysis, 1 H-NMR, polarized optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. The ...
Synthesis, characterization and electrochromic properties of conducting copolymers of 3-[(3-thienylcarbonyl)oxy]-2,2-bis{[(3-thienylcarbonyl)oxy]}propyl 3-thiophene carboxylate with thiophene and pyrrole
Bulut, U; Yilmaz, F; Yagci, Y; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2004-01-01)
3-[(3-Thienylcarbonyl)oxy]-2,2-bis{[(3-thienylcarbonyl)oxy]}propyl 3-thiophene carboxylate (TOTPT) was synthesized by the reaction of 3-thionylcarbonyl chloride with pentaerythritol, it was electrochemically polymerized with either thiophene or pyrrole by using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) as the supporting electrolyte in acetonitrile (AN). Characterization of the resulting copolymers was carried out by FTIR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA), differential sc...
Synthesis, characterization and electrochromic properties of conducting copolymers of 2,3-bis-[(3-thienylcarbonyl)oxy]propyl 3-thiophene carboxylate with thiophene and pyrrole
Bulut, U; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yilmaz, F; Yagci, Y (Elsevier BV, 2004-11-01)
2,3-bis-[(3-thienylcarbonyl)oxy]propyl 3-thiophene carboxylate (TOPT) was synthesized via the reaction of 3-thionylcarboxylic acid with glycerol, and electrochemically polymerized either with thiophene and pyrrole by using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) as the supporting electrolyte in acetonitrile (AN). Characterization of the resulting copolymers was performed via cyclic voltammetry, FTIR, thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrical conductivities we...
Synthesis, characterization, and electrochromic properties of conducting copolymers of 2-[(3-thienylcarbonyl)oxy]ethyl 3-thiophene carboxylate with thiophene and pyrrole
Bulut, U; Alkan, S; Yilmaz, F; Yagci, Y; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Informa UK Limited, 2004-07-01)
2-[(3-Thienylcarbonyl)oxy]ethyl 3-thiophene carboxylate (TOET) was synthesized via the reaction of 3-thionylcarboxylic acid with ethylene glycol, and electrochemically polymerized with thiophene (Th) and pyrrole (Py) by using tetrabutylannnonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) as the supporting electrolyte in acetonitrile (ACN). Characterization of the resulting copolymers were performed via cyclic voltammetry, FTIR, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrical conductivities are measured by the four-probe ...
