Influence of barium metaphosphate Ba(PO3)(2), addictions on optical properties namely refractive index, n(D), partial dispersion, n(F)-n(C) reciprocal relative dispersion or Abbe number. v, and anomalous partial dispersion, Delta aP(gF) of a fluoride glass in the system AlF3-CaF2-MgF2- SrF2-BaF2 have been investigated. Optical properties of the glass were markedly affected by the barium and oxygen ion incorporated in the glass. Refractive index and partial dispersion increased from 1.4070 to 1.4188 and from 0.0038 to 0.0052, respectively, but the Abbe number and anomalous partial dispersion decreased from 107.1 to 80.5 and from 0.059 to 0.031, respectively when Ba(PO3)(2) content of the glass increased from 0 to 1.5 mol %.

Modification of calcium carbonate surfaces in natural gas plasma for their use in polypropylene composite systems
Öztürk, Serhat; Akovalı, Güneri; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2006)
In this study calcium carbonate (CaCO3) particles are surface modified by using plasma polymerized natural gas and effects of surface modification of CaCO3 filler on mechanical properties of CaCO3-PP composites are investigated. Different combination of plasma factors; RF power, natural gas flow rate, and plasma discharge durations, are investigated. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength and Young’s Modulus are measured by tensile testing machine. Storage modulus and loss modulus measurements are d...
Recovery of strawberry aroma compounds by pervaporation
İşçi, Aslı; Şahin, Serpil; Department of Food Engineering (2004)
Pervaporation is a selective membrane technique in which a liquid feed mixture is separated by means of partial vaporization through a non-porous perm-selective membrane. This method can be used for the recovery of heat sensitive aroma compounds to avoid them from thermal damage in beverage industries. The main objective of this study was to determine the effects of feed temperature (30, 40, 50°C), composition (different model solutions, strawberry essence), concentration (50, 100, 150 ppm) and permeate pre...
Effect of fluorine substituted benzothiadiazole on electro-optical properties of donor-acceptor-donor type monomers and their polymers
Çakal, Deniz; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2020-11-01)
A series of trimeric monomers bearing thiophene donor units and fluorinated analogues of benzothiadiazole acceptor units was synthesized via donor-acceptor-donor approach and polymerized electrochemically in order to investigate the effect of fluorine atom on electro-optical properties of both monomers and their corresponding polymers. All monomers exhibited solvatochromic and fluorescent properties. The introduction of fluorine atom into the conjugated backbone increased the oxidation potentials. Upon movi...
Effect of electrolyte/sulfur ratio in the cathode on the electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries
Emerce, Nur Ber; Külah, Görkem; Eroğlu Pala, Damla; Department of Chemical Engineering (2019)
In this study, the effect of electrolyte to sulfur (E/S) ratio in the cathode, which is an important cell design parameter, on the electrochemical and cell- and system-level performance of a Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) battery is investigated through modeling efforts. First, a 1-D electrochemical model is developed for an isothermal, constant-current discharge of a Li-S cell to predict the voltage at 60% discharge depth. In the model, cathode exchange current density is defined as a linear function of the electro...
Influence of the sol-gel preparation method on the photocatalytic NO oxidation performance of TiO2/Al2O3 binary oxides
Polat, Meryem; Soylu, Asli M.; Altunöz Erdoğan, Deniz; Erguven, Huseyin; Vovk, Evgeny I.; Ozensoy, Emrah (2015-03-01)
In the current work, TiO2/Al2O3 binary oxide photocatalysts were synthesized via two different sol-gel protocols (P1 and P2), where various TiO2 to Al2O3 mole ratios (0.5 and 1.0) and calcination temperatures (150-1000 degrees C) were utilized in the synthesis. Structural characterization of the synthesized binary oxide photocatalysts was also performed via BET surface area analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The photocatalytic NO(g) oxidation performances of these binary oxides were m...
