Two-level composite wing structural optimization using response surfaces
Liu, B; Haftka, RT; Akgun, MA (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2000-10-01)
A two-level optimization procedure for composite wing design subject to strength and buckling constraints is presented. At wing-level design, continuous optimization of ply thicknesses with orientations of 0 degrees, 90 degrees, and +/-45 degrees is performed to minimize weight. At panel level, the number of plies of each orientation (rounded to integers) and inplane loads are specified, and a permutation genetic algorithm is used to optimize the stacking sequence in order to maximize the buckling load. The...
Two-dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes solution method with moving overset grids
Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 1997-03-01)
A simple numerical algorithm to localize intergrid boundary points and to interpolate unsteady solution variables across two-dimensional, structured overset grids is presented. Overset grids are allowed to move in time relative to each other. Intergrid boundary points are localized in a triangular stencil on the donor grid by a directional search algorithm. The final parameters of the search algorithm give the interpolation weights at the intergrid boundary point. Numerical results are presented for steady ...
Two-Level Quasi Multi-Pulse Voltage Source Converter Based Generalized Unified Power Flow Controller
VURAL, AHMET METE; Bayindir, K. C. (2011-09-01)
A multi voltage source converter (VSC) based flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) device, such as generalized unified power flow controller (GUPFC) has more control parameters than its successor unified power flow controller (UPFC). Owing to its multi VSC based configuration, GUPFC can concurrently control real/reactive power flows of two or more transmission lines and AC bus voltage magnitude. In this work, PSCAD/EMTDC model of GTO based GUPFC is developed consisting of two series-VSCs ...
