Drying Behavior of Meat Samples at Various Fiber Directions and Air Conditions
Karabacak, Meltem Soydan; Esin, Ali; Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz (Informa UK Limited, 2014-04-26)
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of meat fiber directions and air conditions on moisture and temperature developments, shrinkage, and effective diffusivity constants compared to homogenous minced meat samples. The lean meat with three fiber directions and minced meat samples were dried at temperatures of 48 and 70 degrees C and air flow rates of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.7m/s. The minced meat samples showed 1.0 +/- 0.19 to 4.4 +/- 0.03 degrees C higher temperature values and 2.3 +/- 0.004 to 6.2 +...
Operational conditions of activated sludge: Influence on flocculation and dewaterability
Sanin, Faika Dilek; Turtin, Ipek; Kara, Fadime; Durmaz, Burcu; Sesay, Mohamed L. (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
Selected operational conditions of activated sludge are investigated in relation to their effect on flocculation and dewatering. Semi-continuous reactors with 2 -L volume were operated at different mean cell residence times, C/N ratios, and three different influent cations. Results show that MCRT, C/N ratio, and the cation type affect the bioflocculation capacity of activated sludge measured by the quantity of extracellular polymeric substances. As the MCRT value operated in the reactors and the C/N ratio o...
CO2 addition and pressure effects on laminar and turbulent lean premixed CH4 air flames
Cohé, Cecile; Chauveau, Christian; Goekalp, Iskender; Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda (Elsevier BV, 2009-01-01)
An experimental study on CH4-CO2-air flames at various pressures is conducted by using both laminar and turbulent Bunsen flame configurations. The aim of this research is to contribute to the characterization of fuel lean methane/carbon dioxide/air premixed laminar and turbulent flames at different pressures, by studying laminar and turbulent flame propagation velocities, the flame surface density and the instantaneous flame front wrinkling parameters. PREMIX computations and experimental results indicate a...
Phase Behavior of Carbon Dioxide and Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes with Two Different Functional Groups
Dumanlilar, Beril; Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
Phase behavior of carbon dioxide and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) modified with two different functional groups is studied in the temperature range of 308-323 K, up to 22 MPa. Different than the common types, one of the eight functional groups attached to the Si atoms of these POSS is a CO2-philic functional group, methacryl, while the rest are branched alkyl chains, either isooctyl (MIOPOSS) or isobutyl (MIBPOSS). Methacrylisobutyl POSS-CO2 binary system exhibits pressure-induced melting te...
Kinetic studies for the production of tertiary ethers used as gasoline additives
Boz, Nezahat; Doğu, Timur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
In the present study, the kinetics studies for etherification reactions were investigated in detail. In the first phase of present study, different acidic resin catalysts were prepared by the heat treatment of Amberlyst-15 catalysts at 220°C at different durations of time and also by the synthesis of sulfonated styrene divinylbenzene cross-linked resins at different conditions. A linear dependence of reaction rate on hydrogen ion-exchange capacity was in 2M2B+ethanol reaction. However, in the case of 2M1B+e...
