The problem of determining the field scattered by a cluster of scatterers when they are insonified by a known acoustical field is addressed. The problem is formulated by using the T-matrix method and the resulting system of linear equations is solved by using the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) and the fast multipole method-fast Fourier transform (FMMFFT) method, and the efficiency of the two methods is compared. It was observed that, in general, the MLFMA performs better than the FMMFFT algorithm. However, when the scatterers are distributed uniformly on a rectangular grid, the FMMFFT algorithm performs as good as the MLFMA. The accuracy of the methods is evaluated by modeling a spherical scatterer as composed of many small spheres. (C) 1998 Acoustical Society of America. [S0001-4966(97)00812-6].

ANALYSIS OF MILLIMETER WAVE-GUIDES ON ANISOTROPIC SUBSTRATES USING THE 3-DIMENSIONAL TRANSMISSION-LINE MATRIX-METHOD
BULUTAY, C; PRASAD, S (1993-06-01)
Three-dimensional condensed asymmetrical node, variable grid, transmission-line matrix (TLM) method has been used in analyzing several millimeter waveguides on anisotropic substrates. The dispersion characteristics of image guides together with field and energy confinement properties at millimeter-wave frequencies have been investigated. Edge coupled microstrip line on a uniaxial substrate is analyzed for the even and odd mode dispersion characteristics. Finally the same analysis is repeated for bilateral f...
Analysis of Composite Structures Involving Near-Zero-Index Materials
Koyaz, Yesim; İbili, Hande; Karaosmanoglu, Bariscan; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2019-01-01)
We consider numerical solutions of electromagnetic problems involving near-zero-index materials with permittivity and/or permeability values close to zero. These types of problems are inherently multiscale due to the large variety of the wavelength from very large values to ordinary values in the same problem. In addition to developing a stable formulation for extreme values of the intrinsic impedance, we employ a broadband multilevel fast multipole algorithm based on approximate diagonalization for efficie...
DESIGN AND SIMULATION OF CIRCULAR ARRAYS OF TRAPEZOIDAL-TOOTH LOG-PERIODIC ANTENNAS VIA GENETIC OPTIMIZATION
Gurel, L.; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2008-01-01)
Circular arrays of log-periodic (LP) antennas are designed and their operational properties are investigated in a sophisticated simulation environment that is based on the recent advances in computational electromagnetics. Due to the complicated structures of the trapezoidal-tooth array elements and the overall array configuration, their analytical treatments are prohibitively difficult. Therefore, the simulation results presented in this paper are essential for their analysis and design. We present the des...
Computational Analysis of Nanoantenna Arrays for Nanoparticle Detection
Isiklar, Goktug; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2019-01-01)
We present computational analysis of nanoantenna arrays when they are used to detect and identify nearby nanoparticles. Solutions of frequency-domain scattering problems are performed by using a surface-integral-equation formulation that is suitable for composite structures involving metallic, dielectric, magnetic, and/or plasmonic objects. Acceleration is further achieved via the multilevel fast multipole algorithm that is developed for composite structures. Numerical results demonstrate the feasibility of...
Inverse problems for parabolic equations
Baysal, Arzu; Çelebi, Okay; Department of Mathematics (2004)
In this thesis, we study inverse problems of restoration of the unknown function in a boundary condition, where on the boundary of the domain there is a convective heat exchange with the environment. Besides the temperature of the domain, we seek either the temperature of the environment in Problem I and II, or the coefficient of external boundary heat emission in Problem III and IV. An additional information is given, which is the overdetermination condition, either on the boundary of the domain (in Proble...
