The effects of various thermal treatments on the properties of both PEEK and APC2 have been systematically studied. X-ray diffraction data, together with dynamic mechanical measurements, indicate that the T(g) values for both materials are considerably higher than those generally reported. Also, the tan delta values for quenched APC2 specimens are considerably higher than for slowly cooled materials. Microstructural observations show that this is likely to be due to poor fibre/matrix adhesion, in the case of the quenched specimens. The link between tan delta and degree of fibre/matrix coupling is currently being explored.

The effect of Esthetic fibers on impact resistance of a conventional heat-cured denture base resin
Dogan, Orhan Murat; Bolayir, Giray; Keskin, Selda; Dogan, Arife; Bek, Bulent; Boztug, Ali (Japanese Society for Dental Materials and Devices, 2007-03-01)
This study was conducted to observe the changes in impact resistance of a denture base resin reinforced with five types of fiber. E-glass, polyester, rayon, nylon 6, and nylon 6/6 fibers were cut into 2, 4, and 6 mm lengths and added into the resin at a concentration of 3% by weight. Five test specimens for each formulation, as well as control specimens without fiber, were prepared using a mold including a V-shaped notch with 55 x 10 x 10 mm dimensions. Impact tests were carried out using a Charpy-type test...
Influences of three different ethylene copolymers on the toughness and other properties of polylactide
MEYVA, YELDA; Kaynak, Cevdet (Informa UK Limited, 2016-01-01)
The aim of this study was to investigate influences of three different ethylene copolymers on the toughness and other properties of very brittle biopolymer PLA (polylactide). For this aim, PLA was melt blended by twin-screw extruder with various amounts of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), ethylene-methyl-acrylate (EMA) and ethylene-n-butyl acrylate-glycidyl-methacrylate (EBA-GMA). SEM and DSC analyses indicated that these ethylene copolymers were thermodynamically immiscible with phase separation in the form o...
Contribution of Nanoclays to the Performance of Traditional Flame Retardants in ABS
Ozkaraca, Ayse Cagil; Kaynak, Cevdet (Wiley, 2012-03-01)
The purpose of this study was to investigate contribution of nanoclays to the flame retardancy performance of a traditional brominated flame retardant compound with various combinations of antimony trioxide and zinc borate. The matrix polymer acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) was compounded by melt mixing in a laboratory size twin-screw extruder. X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy revealed that nanoclay silicate layers were mainly intercalated with certain level of exfoliati...
Effect of seeding on the properties of mfi type zeolite membranes
Dinçer, Eser; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
The effect of seeding on the properties of alumina supported MFI membranes was investigated in this study. Membranes were synthesized from clear solutions with a molar batch composition of TPAOH:9.80SiO2:0.025NaOH:0.019Al2O3: 602.27H2O:39.16C2H5OH on bare and seeded alumina supports at 130oC in autoclaves. The amount of seed on the support surface was changed between 0.6 mg/cm2 and 6.9 mg/cm2 by vacuum seeding method, which provided uniform and closely packed seed layers. Membranes were characterized by XRD...
Performance of polylactide against UV irradiation: Synergism of an organic UV absorber with micron and nano-sized TiO2
CAN, ULAŞ; Kaynak, Cevdet (SAGE Publications, 2020-08-01)
The main purpose of this study was to investigate mechanical and thermal performance of polylactide specimens against UV irradiation; first when only adding benzotriazole benzotriazole-based organic UV absorber (UVA), micro (200 nm) and nano (50 nm) sized titania (TiO2) particles alone, and then to reveal possible synergism when they are added together. Compounds were prepared by twin-screw extruder melt mixing, while the 2 mm thick specimens were shaped by compression molding. Specimens were exposed to UV ...
