Exergy analysis of a control volume helps to identify sources of losses. However establishing exergy balance necessitates correction terms if environmental conditions change over the time period under consideration. Applications show that the effect of this variation is considerable in some cases.

Exergy balance of a general system with variation of environmental conditions and some applications
Gogus, YA; Camdali, U; Kavsaoglu, MS (2002-07-01)
An exergy balance of a system helps to identify causes of losses. Establishing an exergy balance necessitates correction terms if environmental conditions change over the time period under consideration or the system is moving with respect to the environment. Applications show that these effects are considerable in some cases. On the other hand an exergy balance is also a means for checking a computational procedure. STATISTICAL PARAMETERS CHARACTERIZING THE SPATIAL VARIABILITY OF SELECTED SOIL HYDRAULIC-PROPERTIES
Ünlü, Kahraman; BIGGAR, JW; MORKOC, F (Wiley, 1990-11-01)
The knowledge of the statistical parameters of the variance, sigma-2, and the correlation scale, lambda, characterizing the spatial structures of the log of the saturated hydraulic conductivity, lnK(s), pore size distribution parameter alpha, and the specific water capacity, C, is required in stochastic modeling in order to understand the overall response of large-scale heterogenous unsaturated flow systems. These parameters are estimated assuming second-order stationarity and an exponential semivariogram ...
Parameter optimization of chemically activated mortaars containing high volumes of pozzolan by statistical design and analysis of experiments
Aldemir, Başak; Saatçioğlu, Ömer; Department of Industrial Engineering (2006)
This thesis illustrates parameter optimization of early and late compressive strengths of chemically activated mortars containing high volumes of pozzolan by statistical design and analysis of experiments. Four dominant parameters in chemical activation of natural pozzolans are chosen for the research, which are natural pozzolan replacement, amount of pozzolan passing 45 æm sieve, activator dosage and activator type. Response surface methodology has been employed in statistical design and analysis of experi...
Investigation and comparison of the preprocessing algorithms for microarrayanalysis for robust gene expression calculation and performance analysis of technical replicates
İLK, HAKKI GÖKHAN; İlk Dağ, Özlem; KONU KARAKAYALI, ÖZLEN; ÖZDAĞ, Hilal (2006-04-19)
Preprocessing of microarray data involves the necessary steps of background correction, normalization and summarization of the raw intensity data obtained from cDNA or oligo-arrays before statistical analysis. Several algorithms, namely RMA, dChip, and MAS5 exist for the preprocessing of Affymetrix microarray data. Previous studies have identified RMA as one of most accurate algorithms while MAS5 was characterized with lower accuracy and sensitivity levels. In this study, performance of different preprocess...
Analysis of single Gaussian approximation of Gaussian mixtures in Bayesian filtering applied to mixed multiple-model estimation
Orguner, Umut (Informa UK Limited, 2007-01-01)
This paper examines the effect of the moment-matched single Gaussian approximation, which is made in various multiple-model filtering applications to approximate a Gaussian mixture, on the Bayesian filter performance. The estimation error caused by the approximation is analysed for both the prediction and the measurement updates of a Bayesian filter. An approximate formula is found for the covariance of the error caused by the approximation for a general Gaussian mixture with arbitrary components. The calcu...
