Exergy balance of a general system with variation of environmental conditions and some applications

An exergy balance of a system helps to identify causes of losses. Establishing an exergy balance necessitates correction terms if environmental conditions change over the time period under consideration or the system is moving with respect to the environment. Applications show that these effects are considerable in some cases. On the other hand an exergy balance is also a means for checking a computational procedure. General exergy balance of a system with variation of environmental conditions and some applications
Gogus, Y; Camdali, U (2000-07-07)
Exergy analysis of a control volume helps to identify sources of losses. However establishing exergy balance necessitates correction terms if environmental conditions change over the time period under consideration. Applications show that the effect of this variation is considerable in some cases.
Towards successful e-payment systems: An empirical identification and analysis of critical factors
Özkan Yıldırım, Sevgi; Hackney, Ray (null; 2009-12-01)
This research aims to explore the factors relating to e-payment system to be implemented where electronic processes enable the facilitation of online transactions. A secondary analysis revealed six factors which are argued to be 'critical' for customer adoption of these systems. The findings were further augmented by an online survey of 155 respondents where the perceived importance of the critical factors were correlated through: security, trust, perceived advantage, assurance seals, perceived risk and usa...
Stochastic surplus processes with VaR AND CVaR simulations in actuarial applications
Şimşek, Meral; Uğur, Ömür; Kestel, Sevtap Ayşe; Department of Actuarial Sciences (2016)
The theory of ruin is a substantial study for those who are interested in financial survival probability based on the patterns imposed by the surplus process, which determines the insurer’s capital balance at a given time. In other words, fluctuations in aggregate claims as well as premiums in such processes can be secured by a certain capital. In this study, we simulate various surplus processes under different claim sizedistribution assumptions and extend the analyses by adding perturbation of a Brownian mo...
Assessment of software process and metrics to support quantitative understanding
TARHAN, AYÇA; Demirörs, Onur (2007-11-07)
The use of process metrics and data for quantitative understanding is not very straightforward. If we have an identification of process components and follow a measurement process, we are likely to use process metrics and data effectively. But if we don't have these practices, we can hardly trust oil process metrics and data for quantitative understanding. In this paper, we summarize eight case studies that we performed in different industrial contexts. The case studies rely on an assessment approach that i...
Modeling company failure: a longitudinal study of Turkish banks
İlk Dağ, Özlem; ÇİNKO, MURAT (2014-01-01)
Determining the factors related to the financial failure of a company is important. In this paper, we extend literature on bank failure prediction by modelling bank failures in Turkey from 1998 to 2000 using three statistical models combined with a principal component analysis on financial ratios. The three statistical models employed are a logistic regression, a logistic regression that takes serial correlation into account via generalized estimating equations and a marginalized transition model (MTM). Tim...
