The gravitational Higgs mechanism proposed by 't Hooft in arXiv:0708.3184 involves the spacetime metric g(mu nu) as well as the induced metric (g) over bar (mu nu) proportional to eta(ab)partial derivative(mu)phi(a)partial derivative(nu)phi(b) where phi(a) (a = 0,..., 3), as we call it, break all four diffeomorphisms spontaneously via the vacuum expectation values proportional to x(a). In this framework, we construct and analyze the most general action density in terms of various invariants involving the curvature tensors, connexion coefficients, and the contractions and the determinants of the two metric fields. We show that this action admits a consistent expansion about the flat background such that the resulting Lagrangian possesses several novel features not found in the linearized Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with Fierz-Pauli mass term (LEHL-FP): (i) its kinetic part generalizes that of LELHL-FP by weighing the corresponding structures with certain coefficients generated by invariants, (ii) the entire Lagrangian is ghost- and tachyon-free for mass terms not necessarily in the Fierz-Pauli form, and, (iii) a consistent mass term is generated with no apparent need to higher derivative couplings.

All unitary cubic curvature gravities in D dimensions
Sisman, Tahsin Cagri; Gullu, Ibrahim; Tekin, Bayram (IOP Publishing, 2011-10-07)
We construct all the unitary cubic curvature gravity theories built on the contractions of the Riemann tensor in D-dimensional (anti)-de Sitter spacetimes. Our construction is based on finding the equivalent quadratic action for the general cubic curvature theory and imposing ghost and tachyon freedom, which greatly simplifies the highly complicated problem of finding the propagator of cubic curvature theories in constant curvature backgrounds. To carry out the procedure we have also classified all the unit...
Neutrino oscillations induced by spacetime torsion
Adak, M; Dereli, T; Ryder, LH (IOP Publishing, 2001-04-21)
The gravitational neutrino oscillation problem is studied by considering the Dirac Hamiltonian in a Riemann-Cartan spacetime and calculating the dynamical phase. Torsion contributions which depend on the spin direction of the mass eigenstates are found. These effects are of the order of Planck scales.
Topologically massive gravity as a Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator
Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür; Tekin, Bayram (IOP Publishing, 2006-12-21)
We give a detailed account of the free- field spectrum and the Newtonian limit of the linearized ` massive' ( Pauli -Fierz), 'topologically massive' ( Einstein Hilbert - Chern - Simons) gravity in 2 + 1 dimensions about a Minkowski spacetime. For a certain ratio of the parameters, the linearized free theory is Jordan diagonalizable and reduces to a degenerate ` Pais - Uhlenbeck' oscillator which, despite being a higher derivative theory, is ghost free.
Accelerated Levi-Civita-Bertotti-Robinson metric in D dimensions
Gurses, M; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2005-12-01)
A conformally flat accelerated charge metric is found in an arbitrary dimension D. It is a solution of the Einstein-Maxwell-null fluid equations with a cosmological constant in D >= 4 dimensions. When the acceleration is zero, our solution reduces to the Levi-Civita-Bertotti-Robinson metric. We show that the charge loses its energy, for all dimensions, due to the acceleration.
Charged lepton electric dipole moments with localized leptons and new Higgs doublet in the two Higgs doublet model
Iltan, E. O. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2007-08-01)
We study the electric dipole moments of the leptons in the split fermion scenario, in the two Higgs doublet model, where the new Higgs scalars are localized around the origin in the extra dimension, with the help of the localizer field. We observe that the numerical value of the electric dipole moment of the electron (muon, tau) is of the order of the magnitude of 10(-31) ( 10(-24), 10(-22)) (e cm), and this quantity is sensitive to the new Higgs localization in the extra dimension.
