In this study, three fatigue crack growth life estimation methodologies are reviewed and sample calculations are made using these methodologies. Comparison of the results with respect to the methodologies are made. Three computer codes which represent these methodologies, CRACKS IV, FASTRAN and FATIGUE are selected for the analyses. The estimations are also correlated to the test results found in the literature. FALSTAFF spectra are used in the analyses.

A SURVEY OF FATIGUE CRACK-GROWTH LIFE ESTIMATION METHODOLOGIES
AKYUREK, T; BILIR, OG (Elsevier BV, 1992-07-01)
In this study, three fatigue crack growth life estimation methodologies are reviewed and sample calculations are made using these methodologies. Comparisons of the results with respect to the methodologies are made. Three computer codes which represent these methodologies, CRACKS IV, FAST and FATIGUE, are selected for the analyses. The estimations are also correlated to the test results.
A comparison of orthogonal cutting data from experiments with three different finite element models
Bil, H; Kilic, SE; Tekkaya, AE (Elsevier BV, 2004-07-01)
The aim of this study is to compare various simulation models of orthogonal cutting process with each other as well as with the results of various experiments. Commercial implicit finite element codes MSC.Marc, Deform2D and the explicit code Thirdwave AdvantEdge have been used. In simulations, a rigid tool is advanced incrementally into the deformable workpiece which is remeshed whenever needed. In simulations with MSC.Marc and Thirdwave AdvantEdge, there is no separation criterion defined since chip format...
EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF FATIGUE DAMAGE ACCUMULATION IN 1100-AL ALLOY
BILIR, OG (Elsevier BV, 1991-01-01)
The cumulative fatigue damage characteristics of 1100 Al alloy were studied to gain a better understanding of the effects of the loading sequence, the percentage of initial applied load cycles and the stress ratio.
Crack path and life prediction under mixed mode cyclic variable amplitude loading through XFEM
Dirik, Haydar; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay (Elsevier BV, 2018-09-01)
In the present paper, a mesh independent computational algorithm is developed and incorporated into a commercial finite element software (Abaqus) for automated fatigue crack growth analysis under mixed mode variable amplitude loading conditions. The algorithm calculates the stress intensity factor (SIF) at predetermined small crack growth increments in the finite element software by using Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) and predict the fatigue crack growth (FCG) path through local symmetry (K-II = 0) ...
Application of genetic algorithms to geometry optimization of microclusters: A comparative study of empirical potential energy functions for silicon
Erkoc, S; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal; Halıcı, Uğur (Informa UK Limited, 2003-01-01)
Evolutionary computation techniques (in particular, genetic algorithms) have been applied to optimize the structure of microclusters. Various empirical potential energy functions have been used to describe the interactions among the atoms in the clusters. A comparative study of silicon microclusters has been performed.
