Electronic democracy (e-democracy) is a necessity in this era of computers and information technology. Electronic election (e-election) is one of the most important applications of e-democracy, because of the importance of the voters' privacy and the possibility of frauds. Electronic voting (e-Voting) is the most significant part of e-election, which refers to the use of computers or computerised voting equipment to cast ballots in an election. Due to the rapid growth of computer technologies and advances in cryptographic techniques, e-Voting is now an applicable alternative for many non-govern mental elections. However, security demands become higher when voting takes place in the political area. Requirement analysis is an important part of the system design process and it is impossible to develop the right system in the right way without correct and complete set of requirements. In the literature, many e-Voting requirements are defined. However, the researchers started to discuss the verification in e-Voting recently. Unfortunately the definitions for verifiability are inadequate and unclear; and it is categorised as individual verifiability and universal verifiability, where they are generally misused in the literature. Moreover, validation is not discussed yet. This paper focuses on the importance of the validation and verification in e-Voting, gives proper definitions for validity and verifiability in e-Voting and describes their relation to accuracy and robustness of the e-Voting system. This paper also states some problems to design and develop secure and verifiable e-Voting systems and provides basic requirements that any e-Voting system should satisfy.

Colour coding based novel data representation and lightweight convolutional neural network architecture for hierarchical anomaly detection on ehealth applications
Yatbaz, Hakan Yekta; Ever, Enver; Computer Engineering (2020-10)
eHealth is on its way to become an essential industry due to the advancements in information technology. Human activity recognition (HAR) is one of the most popular areas within the scope of eHealth, particularly with applications in anomaly detection. Although there are various studies on HAR, most of them propose complex models that are not compatible with portable devices and wearables due to their restricted computing capabilities. In this thesis, new data representation is presented along with a lightw...

A case study: students'attitudes towards computer assisted learning, computer assisted language learning and foreign language learning
Tunçok, Bezen; Daloğlu, Ayşegül; Department of English Language Teaching (2010)
Being one of the most epoch making invention of the 21st century, computers have fundamentally altered every aspect of people’s lives, including the education domain. Thus, for decades, computer-assisted language learning has received considerable amount of attention among researchers and language teachers by serving interactive, multi-sensory, and autonomous learning opportunities. In this respect, innumerable large or small-scale projects blazed a trail for other teachers to follow. The present study, the...
Catching up and the role of university industry linkages in emerging economies Case of Turkey
Erdil, Erkan (null; 2015-09-01)
In the last century, universities have played a significant role in stimulating technological change and innovation. The recent decades have witnessed a change in the mission of the universities, namely their social mission in disseminating knowledge and interacting more broadly with the surrounding society, in addition to conduct education and research. This dissemination and interaction is often realized in the form of successful university-industry collaborations (UICs) in the developing countries. Never...
