Kaltakci, Derya
Didis, Niluefer
In this study misconceptions, lack of knowledge and error are discriminated from each other and shown in percentages with a three tier Gravity concept test. It is conducted on 41 pre-service physics teachers on grades 4 and 5 at Middle East Technical University.

Investigation of students probabilistic misconceptions
Mut, Ali İhsan; Bulut, Safure; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2003)
The purpose of the study was to investigate the students̕ probabilistic misconceptions with respect to grade level, previous instruction on probability and gender. The sample of the study was 885 students from different types of the schools (general high schools, private collages, Anatolian high school, vocational high schools, and elementary schools) and from grade levels (5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10). The sample represented a range of students with respect to socio-economic level and cultural background. To coll...
Developing a three-tier test to assess high school students' misconceptions concerning force and motion
Türker, Fatma; Eryılmaz, Ali; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2005)
The purpose of this study is to develop a three-tier test for assessing high school students̕ misconceptions concerning force and motion. The first tier is a traditional multiple choice item, the second tier presents several alternatives addressing the reason for the response for the first tier, and the third tier asks if examinees are confident for their responses to the first two tiers. In the process of test development, Force and Motion Test Requesting Reasoning was developed and utilized to determine t...
A marginalized multilevel model for bivariate longitudinal binary data
Inan, Gul; İlk Dağ, Özlem (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-06-01)
This study considers analysis of bivariate longitudinal binary data. We propose a model based on marginalized multilevel model framework. The proposed model consists of two levels such that the first level associates the marginal mean of responses with covariates through a logistic regression model and the second level includes subject/time specific random intercepts within a probit regression model. The covariance matrix of multiple correlated time-specific random intercepts for each subject is assumed to ...
Experimental design with short-tailed and long-tailed symmetric error distributions
Yilmaz, Yıldız Elif; Akkaya, Ayşen; Department of Statistics (2004)
One-way and two-way classification models in experimental design for both balanced and unbalanced cases are considered when the errors have Generalized Secant Hyperbolic distribution. Efficient and robust estimators for main and interaction effects are obtained by using the modified maximum likelihood estimation (MML) technique. The test statistics analogous to the normal-theory F statistics are defined to test main and interaction effects and a test statistic for testing linear contrasts is defined. It is ...
